Maryellen: Taking Off (American Girl Historical Characters)

By Valerie Tripp

This book was great! I loved reading about Maryellen and her show about polio. I also enjoyed reading about her strong relationship with her older sister, Joan. This was a very nice story!

The Misfits

The Misfits

By James Howe

The Misfits is a book where four kids in seventh grade are best friends who have one thing that they definitely have in common, their misfits. That's what the school thinks of them anyways. The name-calling and bullying are targeted to them and many others. One day and becomes too much and the Gang of Five (that's their group name, there's only four people in the group) set up a plan to end it. The Misfits does an absolute job at bring up the topics of bullying in school and other sensitive topics, the book handles the plot well and connects with people who also struggle with bullying, that's why this review is a five stars. For me, I can say that I can connect to the book when the main cast is tired of the bullying(I hope that's for a lot of people). I can recommend this book to grades 5 and higher who like realistic fiction.

Play Ball! (Little League)

Play Ball! (Little League)

By Matt Christopher

Play ball by Matt Christopher. The book is realistic fiction and adventure. Carter and Liam have been playing baseball since they were little. Then Liam moved to California. When Liam moved to California. Ash Labrie moved into Liam’s old house. And took over his position as catcher. My favorite part of the book is when Ash followed Carter to his hideout and Carter had to lie about were he was going so Ash did not follow him. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes baseball.

This book is AMAZING. Words cannot express how well the author did on writing this book. It is a very depressing story about a thirteen year old girl name Lakshmi, and her experience with the cruelty in this world. Lakshmi is a typical, poor hill girl. One day her step father decides to let her work as a maid in the city to earn money for the family. But when she visits the city, she finds out that she is not actually there to become a maid but something she never imagined doing in her lifetime. I must warn you this is a very depressing story as it progresses . It can be a lot for young readers to handle. But this book is a very inspiring and excellent book, I highly suggest this book to everyone.
