I love this book in this book the girl is sleeping, then her dad wakes her up because a baby was born. While her mom and dad and baby sister were having a party in the hospital, the girl has to go to her grandma's house and she is forced to eat cold oatmeal and play cheekers. A few days later, the girl notices that the baby needs a better sister. The girl will be nice to the baby. She lets the baby scribble on the wall and mess stuff up. The Strange Case of Origami Yoda (Origami Yoda #1)

The Strange Case of Origami Yoda (Origami Yoda #1)

By Tom Angleberger

I origionally bought this book for my brother's birthday, but I decided to read it anyways. I really liked it because it wasn't all about some crazy intergalactic Star Wars adventure or some difficult Origami guide, like I thought it would be. It takes place in an average, boooring middle school. The main characters are a group of some dorky, some annoying, and some popular sixth-graders, and one in particular, Dwight, who is not in any of those categories. Dwight would just be classified as one thing: unbelievably wierd and totally bonkers. He walks around with a finger puppet that looks like Yoda that gives out advice. Some of the kids believe in Origami Yoda because of all his great advice, but one kid, Harvey, refuses to believe in Origami Yoda even though his life's a mess. The other kids can't decide if Origami Yoda is real and tapping into the force, or if Dwight is just trying to make them look like fools for making fun of him, so this is the case file to figure out if Origami Yoda is worth listening to. This book is absolutely FULL of laughs!!

Here's To You, Rachel Robinson

Here's To You, Rachel Robinson

By Judy Blume

The sequel to, "Just as Long as We're Together," is told in Rachel's perspective. It was pretty good, not one of my favorite Judy Blume books, but I still liked it. Rachel's older brother Charles had been sent to boarding school but he got expelled and is now living with Rachel and her family again. Rachel is fed up with him and feels like he is tearing her family apart. She just wants something good to happen in her life, but she doesn't feel like talking to her friends about her problems.

Above World

Above World

By Jenn Reese

Aluna has lived her entire life under the sea. She is a Coral Kampii - a splinter of humans that came to live in the sea generations ago to escape the horrors and dangers of the above world. She is only a day away from getting her tail and being confined to the water forever when she sees her friend floating dead in the water. Her breathing shell - the shells attached to their throats that allow them to breathe under water - had broken, causing her to drown. When she reports it to the Elders, she is surprised at their obstinance: ‘no one will venture out to the Above World’, they say, ‘no one will go looking for HydroTek, the tech company that made the necklaces’, ‘these deaths were just accidents’. Aluna knows the survival of her fellow Kampii and the city are in danger so she rejects her tail and escapes above in a last effort to save her people (and escape the fate that they’ve laid out for her - who wants to stay at home safe all day so she can rear children? She wants to be a hunter!) But can Aluna and her tech-savvy best friend Hoku survive in a world full of dangerous no-longer-humans, modified to live in their extreme environments as a cause of overcrowding and save their city too? This is a dystopian novel set in a world so far in the future where overpopulation has led humans to adapt to live in harsher environments - growing tails, wings, horse hooves, etc. It’s a very engaging story and is very suspenseful, kind of scary, but very exciting. It teaches to think beyond the set boundaries and to think before you act. Loyalty and friendship were very evident themes and the technology was like a kind of magic. I think this is a great read that most kids should enjoy.
