After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

I give this book 5 Stars! It's was so captivating and full of fantasy and romance. This book is sure to leave u dying for more. The main character is a strong female.

I give this book a 5 star rating. I would recommend it because it has so much adventure, then I also liked that the main character is so strong.

I ABSOLUTLY LOVE THIS BOOK!!! PLEASE READ IT! I literally can't wait to read the next books in the series! I'm so excited for it to come in at the library!

I first saw the cover on a random page, and decided to learn more about it. When I read that it was about an assassin, I immediately went to buy it. This book focuses on Celaena Sardothien, an assassin, and her participation in a competition almost to the death, similar to the Hunger Games. I loved the way the characters in this story are 3 dimensional. The aren´t completely good or completely evil (except the king), and they don't make me roll my eyes every three pages. The other books in the series are even better, following Celaena´s journey, and how she discovers herself. I seriously recommend this whole series.

Thanks! Now I've decided: I want to read it.

One of the best books I have ever read, I have read other books like "Monument 14" and enjoyed this. It had twists and turns for a Manga and Anime dork it was amazing. I read it 5 hours straight. Celaena such a well developed character she had lots of mysteries. Do not read the prequel first thats what I am doing and it makes it way better. The magic and the cruelty in the king's words, a must buy!! It was a very good plot. Dorian and Celaena amazing.
