The Newbery Medal-winning author of Walk Two Moons, Sharon Creech, brings readers a story with enormous heart.

Love That Dog shows how one boy named Jack finds his voice with the help of a teacher, a pencil, some yellow paper, and of course, a dog. Written as a series of free-verse poems from Jack's point of view, and with classic poetry included in the back matter, this novel is perfect for kids and teachers, too.

Jack hates poetry. Only girls write it and every time he tries to, his brain feels empty. But his teacher, Ms. Stretchberry, won't stop giving her class poetry assignments—and Jack can't avoid them. But then something amazing happens. The more he writes, the more he learns that he does have something to say.

"I guess it does
look like a poem
when you see it
typed up
like that."

Love that dog was a beautifully written book I read last year as a class with my literature teacher. It is about a boy named Jack who absolutely hates poetry. Then every day, he kept getting better little by little in his notebook that his teacher reads. At first, I didn't understand why he mentioned a blue car so much until the end of the book. *SPOILER ALERT* the dog died because the car had hit the dog. I was so sad it almost made me cry as I read it. (that's also one of the few reasons why I don't have any pets because I will be so sad in mourning of a lost companion) Overall, Jack found out that you don't have to be good to write poetry and it is not only meant for girls. Totally 5 stars and highly recommend for quick easy-reads!

I didn't like it. It wasn't very interesting and the story line wasn't that good. I also did not like how the whole book was poetry.

Love That Dog is a great book! It is about a boy, named Jack, and his experience in how he deals with loss. The loss of his dog, Sky. He writes through poetry, and literature. Then, the big day comes and a real poet comes to HIS school. Can he survive in his school and survive the loss of his dog? Find out when you read this amazing novel, journal, and poem by Sharon Creech!

this review is from reading it one year ago. It's definitely an interesting and different book. I would definitely suggest reading it.

I love that a whole book can be written as poetry. Some people may think that poetry is boring, but not this story!

I love when he is inspired by a poet sometimes it is really funny. We got to read it for an read out loud.
