The top-selling U.K. series for middle-grade readers now crosses the pond!

Meet Tom Gates. When his teachers don’t have their beady eyes on him, he likes to draw pictures and write about stuff, like last summer’s worst camping vacation ever (five merits!), or how much he hates sitting next to nosy Marcus Meldrew, the most annoying boy at school. All Tom really wants is to score tickets to see the best band ever, Dude3, when they come to town, and to impress Amy Porter, who is very nice and smart (but is currently ignoring him). Tom’s teachers think he is easily distracted and "lacks focus," but that’s a bit harsh?—?can he help it if his grumpy big sister, Delia, made him late for school (again), or that last night’s homework had to be sacrificed to stave off a vicious dog attack? Master of excuses, creative storyteller, and middle-school comedian extraordinaire, Tom Gates is guaranteed to get kids turning the pages?—?and keep them laughing.

I think that this book is funny and it is like most other funny books because the main person in all stories has an annoying sister or brother.

I think this book was okay. It is about Tom Gates who is the master at excuses and so many other different things. He tries to impress a girl, and gets quite annoyed by Marcus, his classmate who sits next to him.

This book was ok. I don't really like the series either. No offense of course to the author of the book. Cover could be better.

You like Wimpy Kid? Tom Gates is 10 times better! (Wimpy Kids great :D you'll just like Tom more.) As Tom talks about his adventures with his evil non-step-sister, Dog Zombies, and more, you'll be hanging on to every word. I wish this book never ended! BTW: Book 2 is already out!

I find Tom Gates is like the best book I like how they start a band. And I LOVE delia (his sister) she is such a perfect touch. Tom Gates is like the British diary of the wimpy kid. I love the song he made for his band about Delia it's called, Delia is a weirdo.
