Four sisters live with their mother, facing Christmas without their father as the American Civil War is underway. The family is settled in a new neighborhood, living in genteel poverty after the father lost their money. Meg and Jo March, the elder sisters, both work outside the home for money to support the family. Meg teaches four children in a nearby family, while Jo aids her grand-aunt March, a wealthy widow whose strength is failing. Beth helps with housework, and Amy attends school. Their nearest neighbor is a wealthy man whose orphaned grandson lives with him. The sisters introduce themselves to the handsome shy boy, Laurie, who is the age of Jo. Meg is the beautiful sister; Jo is the tomboy; Beth is the musician; and Amy is the charming artist with blond curls. Jo is impulsive and quick to anger. One of her challenges in growing up is to control acting out of anger, a challenge that also faced her mother, Marmee. Marmee advises Jo on speaking with forethought. The boy Laurie enjoys his neighbors, joining the family often in play and home theatrics written by Jo. His grandfather, Mr. Laurence, is charmed by Beth, and gives her the piano used by Laurie’s dead sister.

The four sisters; Margaret (Meg), Josephine (Jo), Elizabeth (Beth), and young Amy March. Their father was sent away to fight in Civil War. Meg is oldest, Jo is second oldest, Beth is older, and Amy is youngest. In the book, Meg has met the young gentleman named John Brooks, former soldier in Civil War, who was wounded in the action and sent away back home. At first, Meg dislike John but then she really like him so she married John and has two children, an twins, Demi and Daisy. Jo has met her good friend, Theodore Laurence (Jo usually just call him Laurie), who has told Jo that he loved her but Jo has rejected him. Jo`s youngest sister, Amy has married Laurie. Beth has became so sick with smallpox but got better. Then Jo has met another man, Fredrich Bhaer, an professor at I think college. Jo and Fredrich has adopted few children and has few biogical children. In the ending of the book, The Marches, Brooks, Laurences, and Bhaers, has met during maybe spring or summer... The ending of the book is my favorite part of the story because I just like sound of different families meeting during spring, summer, fall, and winter! This book is so GOOD that I would def recommend this book for you guys!

One book. Five very different girls. One loving family. This book has been described by some as heartfelt, sweet, classic, and heartwarming but that is just the beginning of this marvelous book. this story follows the life of five sisters growing up during the Civil War. With their father gone over seas to help with the war, the March sisters, along with their mother whom they affectionately call Marmee, must make do with their lives without him. All five girls have very different personalities; adventurous and headstrong Jo, gentle and shy Beth, beautiful and elegant Meg, and spoiled and narcissistic Amy. Through the years as the girls grow up, they learn more about themselves and life. Although their lives are not easy, all the March girls confide in each other and their loving family. The author, Louisa May Alcott, displays the perfect family; one that is solely focused on each other and being there their loved ones to get through the hard times. This book beautifully demonstrates the importance of family, love, and joy. A reader could benefit from this book because the constant reminder of family. Many good life lessons are told honestly in this book, and that would greatly profit the person who reads this unforgettable story. This book follows the life of five girls growing up during the Civil War. Although personally affected by the war, the March girls remain strong and hopeful. Everything about this book is hopeful and heartwarming; I would definitely suggest this book. Happy reading!
