There is always more that what is told Cinderella is Dead is a folktale retelling of the classical story Cinderella by Kalynn Bayron. Sophia wanted to run away from Lille with her childhood friend, Erin. But, Erin doesn’t want to run away and break the law. She believes that Sophia and she should accept their place in society. So during the annual ball, Sophia ran away into the White Woods so she doesn’t have to be wed. Then she ended up at Cinderella’s grave and met Constance. Together they head off on an adventure to find out the true story of Cinderella. Topics addressed in this story were sexual harassment, LGBTQ+, male supremacy, betrayal, abuse, power, justice, belief, and hierarchy. A quote from Sophia’s mother is “Happiness is a bonus, Sophia. You’re not entitled to it, and the sooner you accept that, the easier your life will be.” To me this book was a great read with interesting characters and an original story. I recommend that you should read this book and I rate it five stars. By Victoria
