If ever a chill entered her soul, or the hope suddenly drained from her heart, she knew a bogle was to blame.

Birdie McAdam, a ten-year-old orphan, is tougher than she looks. She's proud of her job as apprentice to Alfred the Bogler, a man who catches monsters for a living. Birdie lures the bogles out of their lairs with her sweet songs, and Alfred kills them before they kill her. On the mean streets of Victorian England, hunting bogles is actually less dangerous work than mudlarking for scraps along the vile river Thames. (See glossary!) Or so it seems—until the orphans of London start to disappear . . .

this book is so cool.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is completely fantasy but still fun. Bogles are basically monsters. An orphan, named Birdie McAdams is the apprentice of a bogler-a man who destroys bogles. With her sweet voice she coaxes the bogles to come out, and when they do BANG! they die. Birdie loves doing it until strange things happen, and orphans start vanishing.Suddenly Birdie is wrapped up in the middle of it!

I really liked this book, and would highly recommend it to kids 8-12 who are like Fantasy/Adventure books. This book reminded me a lot of the Spiderwick Chronicles, because of all the monsters in it, so if you enjoyed those books i would highly recommend these!

Yay first to review. Birdie McAdams is bogler. Well so to speak a boglrer's girl ( actually she's the bait) who lures Bogles out with her singing. After their usual jobs Alfred Bunce, the GO-Devil-Man is confronted by a women named Sarah Pickles. Sarah (who runs a group of kids who at a very young age learn to pickpocket) is complaining that some of her children are disappearing from the streets of London. So Birdie and Alfred must find out where the children are going. Their accusations : Bogles. After a job Miss Eames demands that she stick around to study on what they are doing. As the months go by children are still disappearing, Alfred and Birdie go to exterminate a bogle at Dr. Morton's house, but they find a terrible secret. Find out when the book comes out!
