Ban This Book: A Novel

By Alan Gratz

Alan Gratz, known for writing books such as code of honor wrote this one VERY good and underrated book called "Ban This Book" A great book for every type of person. Amy Ane, Rebecca, and Danny try to find a way to unban some select books from the library because someone thought they were inappropriate. I like this book because There are funny parts, parts that have tension, moments that hit you in the feels, even moments that the central idea could happen to you. That's why you Should read Ban This Book. If you like the reason's above why not give it a read.

Walk Two Moons

Walk Two Moons

By Sharon Creech

I really enjoyed this book because there were sad parts and miracles to it. The book got exciting every single chapter especially the last chapter was sad and exciting at the same time. I got excited when we were reading this book with the whole class so we started it together and end it together. I really loved this book and I think you should read it too.

Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics

Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics

By Chris Grabenstein

I loved this book and I really enjoyed it. The book is about a boy named Kyle Keeley, who in the previous book, won Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Escape game, and is now staring in Lemoncello advertisements. But right after Haley Daley, one of the team members, moves to Hollywood, Mr. Lemoncello anounces that there will be another library game, called The Library Olympics... only this time, it will include kids from all across America, including Marjory, a child prodigy from Michigan. But suddenly, books begin disappearing from the shelf’s, and Mr. Lemoncello looks like he is about ready to give the library up to ‘the League of Library Lovers’ led by millionaire Mrs. Chillington, the mother of a losing competitor. I loved this book. You should defiantly read it.

The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild

By Jack London

I think this is the first classic book that I actually ENJOYED. I read the "kids" version for a book report in 3rd grade and really enjoyed it. The "full" version is even better. I liked how Jack London showed what BUCK thought at the moment since many other books hide the feelings of a dog. Overall, very fun to read. I'd recommend for Grades 5+

The Elephant Whisperer: My Life with the Herd in the African Wild

The Elephant Whisperer: My Life with the Herd in the African Wild

By Lawrence Anthony, Graham Spence

Lawrence Anthony is an extravagant writer who details his intriguing experiences in the African Wild on his game reserve Thula-Thula. “The Elephant Whisperer” by Lawrence Anthony with Graham Spence is a nonfiction memoir allowing readers to see first-hand accounts of the action in Thula-Thula. In this novel Lawrence and his crew of rangers take in a large herd of rebellious elephants, saving them from their death and pain. Throughout this novel we see the bond between Lawrence and these elephants strengthen as they learn things from one another. In particular, the matriarch of the herd, Nana develops an individual bond with Lawrence. Many obstacles and troubles are encountered on Thula-Thula, such as poachers trying to kill indigenous species. Lawrence and the herd overcome these issues and warm up to each other creating an everlasting bond between man and animal. The most prominent theme represented by this novel is conservation and preservation of animals. Lawrence himself believes that all animals should be wild, free of capture and not forced to do tasks for humans. He uses a very moving quote that touches the heart and soul of readers, “To me, the best cage is an empty one” p (368). This truly shows how dedicated Lawrence is to nature and his feelings toward animals of all types. This novel was really ground-breaking in the sense that it tells such an interesting story while also providing information. Lawrence uses such a unique way of writing to incorporate these two aspects of writing together, while also providing intricate details in his work. Overall, this book is worthy of a 5 star rating, and is an absolutely amazing novel for people who love and embrace nature at its finest.

Call of the Wild and White Fang

Call of the Wild and White Fang

By Jack London

Warning! This review may contain spoilers. Call of the wild: A dog named Buck is kidnapped (or dognapped), and force to work as a sled dog. I didn't read White Fang. What I thought of it: Well, I don't like books about animals (I had to read this for homework). Mainly because the main animal character almost always gets mistreated and/or dies. Buck was definitely mistreated and I hated that. I absolutely can't stand animal cruelty or when animals die. When I'm reading a book and there's an animal and a human, I'd rather the human die than the animal. Buck, thankfully, didn't die. But everyone else did. Almost every single animal and human that appeared in the book died. I mean Curly got ripped apart 10 minutes into the book. I guess I get the purpose of it, but I still didn't like it. That was my main problem with this book. It was pretty well written, though. I liked how even though the dogs didn't talk, you still knew what they were thinking. I liked the way Buck grew as a character. In a lot of books, you just kind of suppose the main character changed over the course of the book, but it's not that obvious. In this book, it was obvious. There was a huge difference between Buck when he was first introduce and Buck when the book ended. He really changed a lot, yet he kept some of his character traits. I really liked that. Overall, I appreciated this book, but I didn't like it.
