Estranged

Estranged

By Ethan M. Aldridge

The book Estrange written by Ethan M. Aldridge. I would really recommend this book because the story is very heart-warming and they finally know their true identities. Edmund and the childe exchanged identities when they were only 1 years old. Edmund's parents wanted to be popular so they exchanged Edmund with the childe when they were young. The childe was always the talk of the town while Edmund lives a peaceful life in the humans world. Edmund knows that he is a changeling, and he has always kept it as a secret. Until one day, Edmund's real parents got in trouble and his aunt took over the kingdom. The childe didn't know what to do, so he set off to find Edmund and decided to tell him about what happened to his real parents. Edmund told the childe that he didn't really cared about his real parents and that they never cared about him and they abandoned him. But Edmund had a older sister that was supposed to be the childe's sister, Alexis. She found out that there was two boys that both looked like her younger brother. So she followed them to the other world. When Alexis went to the other world, she started to cause trouble and got Edmund's and the childe's attention. Edmund and the childe quickly dragged Alexis out of the trouble and explained everything to her. Alexis was really surprised that she has two brothers, except the one that has always been beside him was the changeling. The childe has a golem that has to stay beside him for all times, he protects the childe from any danger. Edmund's real aunt is trying to hunt him down because he is the only one that can take the throne away from her. She ordered her followers to look for him and one of them found Edmund and started to chase after him for a long time. Every time Edmund escapes away from his aunt's follower, it appears suddenly again. But one time they ran into a tunnel and found a cage with a mouse in it, the childe decided to save the poor mouse that has been kept in the cage for a long time. The mouse lead them to a witch that was very sad and thought that they were Edmund's aunt's followers and tried to kill them. But luckily the mouse was fast enough to run all the way to the bracelet that the witch has been wearing. Then suddenly the mouse turned into a human. When the witch saw that and she was very happy because the man that just turned from a mouse into a man was her love. She apologized to them and said that she thought they were Edmund 's aunt;s followers. The witch told them the reason why she hated the queen that mch. It's because the queen took her love to experience the new thing that she had invented, which can turn people into mouse. The witch gave Alexis a knife so that she can protect herself. And she gave Edmund I ring that can block the magics that the queen tries to spell on him. When they arrived at the castle back door, they saw a dragon that was supposed to look after the door and not let anyone get in. They had a plan and decided to separate themselves into two groups so that one of the groups can distract the dragon while another group sneaks into the back door of the castle. The golem that had to follow the childe and protect him from any danger didn't want all those to happen, he thinks that it would be pretty hard to defeat the queen. The childe ordered the golem to go with Edmund and protect him. The golem had to melt the mark on his shoulder before he left the childe because that mark means that the golem has to follow the childe and protect him. But without that mark, the golem can leave the childe. The golem was really royalty to the childe, and he was the only friend of the childe before all those things happened. The golem and Edmund went into the castle and tried to find Edmund's aunt. When they finally found her and told her to retreat and hand out the throne, she used her magic and tried to kill Edmund but the golem saved him but got himself melted. Just when Edmund's aunt was about to kill Edmund, the childe and Alexis finally came and defeated the evil queen. After that, Edmund told the childe that his name was Edmund but he doesn't know his name. But someone told him that his name was Cinder before he was changed with Edmund. So Cinder decided to stay where he belonged and let Edmund got back with his real family. Alexis was really sad when she had to leave her brother that she had spent years with but Cinder promised that he would go visit them. Alexis thought that it was pretty cool to have a brother that is a king. Alexis and Edmund returned to the human world and Alexis taught Edmund about everything he should know about the human world.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials: The Official Graphic Novel Prelude

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials: The Official Graphic Novel Prelude

By Jackson Lanzing, Collin P Kelly

Reading The Scorch Trials was very pleasurable. The novel picked up right where The Maze Runner left off and it certainly started with great commotion and excitement, which catched my attention right away. I actually felt the author, James Dashner, had wrote an even better novel that the first one with non-stop action, unexpected twists and turns in every single chapter, and the big mystery of Wicked and the role of the gladers that remained unsolved throughout the story. I found it interesting to read about a future that had a massive global climate change and zombies. I also thought the author had done a great job describing the emotions and feelings of the characters constantly during his writing. There were parts of the novel that made me happy, nervous, excited, and angry as the story developed slowly. However, I felt The Scorch Trials could be improved with less mystery and a little more character development. I would certainly recommend this book to my friends who enjoy action-packed and mysterious stories.

Low Riders in Space (Book 1)

Low Riders in Space (Book 1)

By Cathy Camper

This graphic novel is great! I would recommend it specifically to young children who like the Babymouse series. Low Riders in Space sets place in Mexico where everyone is a comical-looking bug. Three people, Lupe, El Chavo, and Elirio, are mechanics at a car shop. They each have a special talent that makes them each outstanding. But they're tired of working for their grouchy boss, so they find someone else to work with: themselves! But their lack of money crushes their dream. But when a contest that ask for the best car comes up, and you win a CARLOAD of cash, these three besties are up to the challenge. They fix up a lowrider(their favorite type of car) and make it into something stellar. But they need their car to be GALACTIC if they want to win. So, with the rocket engines Lupe installs in the car, they go through space! From stars that shine to jumping moon dust, these three will definitely be one of the best. But will their's be the best. In overwhelming ovation, they are cheered as they win the contest. They get their carload of money, and build their shop! This book is really nice for any kid because it's a graphic novel, and the characters speak Spanglish, so there are translations.

The Red Shoes and Other Tales

The Red Shoes and Other Tales

By Metaphrog

The Red Shoes is about a girl named Karen who loves to dance. After her mother dies she goes to live with her aunt, who buys her a pair of beautiful red ballet shoes. But once Karen puts on the shoes she can't stop dancing. So her aunt locks the shoes away. But when her aunt gets sick Karen puts the shoes on and can't get them off. The only way she can get them off is to cut off her feet. The other two stories, the Glass Case and the Little Match Girl are not nearly as long, and I enjoyed those more. I think that the publisher of this book was trying to make it so the stories wouldn't be horrific, and they would be more mellow so they would be appropriate for younger audiences. I give this book 2 stars because I like the original stories, I just don't like how they were portrayed in this graphic novel.

Scarlett: A Star on the Run

Scarlett: A Star on the Run

By Jon Buller, Susan Schade

Scarlett: A Star on the Run was about a talking movie-star cat and her equally talking doggy friend Trotter. Scarlett and Trotter despise their lives as actors, and their abusive owner. So one night when a window is left open Scarlett and later Trotter seize the opportunity to escape. The pair are taken in by a grouchy old man named Frank, and live with him in his broken-down old cabin. Then one day Frank is taken away in an ambulance-and who knows what has happened to them. Will Scarlett and Trotter be able to evade their pursuers or will they be captured again? This book was an interesting format I have never seen before. It started out as a graphic novel, but then it also alternated as a elementary chapter book with pictures. I recommend this book to elementary aged kids. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The Lunch Witch #1

The Lunch Witch #1

By Deb Lucke

If your looking for something out of the ordinary (or maybe your mother didn't pack you a lunch) check out this hilarious graphic novel. Grunhilda, a witch out of work (people just don't believe in magic like they used to), takes a job as a lunch lady. Everything is going fine until Madison discovers her secret and threatens to expose her. Beautiful black humor and plenty of awkwardness to go around. If you want a good story, you won't go hungry.

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (Classics Illustrated)

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (Classics Illustrated)

By Howard Pyle

One of the lessons King Arthur learns is to not seek revenge and to forgive people for what they have done. If he learned this sooner, it could have made him more calm and peaceful, eventually helping his life in many ways. For example, King Arthur could have made a truce with Sir Lancelot instead of starting a war. Then he would have saved the lives of of all the men who died. It would also have saved him time and he would actually get what he wanted. Then, he would be happy and live his life with his queen. In conclusion, King Arthur learns an important lesson in the story. I would rate this book an “8 out of 10” and it’s illustrations a “7 out of 10”. I would recommend this book because King Arthur’s actions are extraordinary compared to anyone else's and because the book makes you wants to read more. One unanswered question I would ask King Arthur is, “ Why didn’t you make peace with Sir Lancelot when he first asked?”
