The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma

The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma

By Trenton Lee Stewart

Mr. Curtain is back! He has a lot- I repeat a LOT- of really bad plans... Reynie, Constance, Kate, and Sticky are about to experience one of the most well-planned evil schemes in the history of... well, everything that any author has ever written. This is an extremely awesome book, and you will not be able to put it down! By the way, if you read this, you will have severe cases of disappointment when you discover that this author has only written 4 other kids books, at least two of which you have probably already read, as you have gotten this far in the series. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Watch the Sky

Watch the Sky

By Kirsten Hubbard

Jory Birch’s family is like no other. Jory’s stepfather, Caleb, is warning the family of some kind of danger that will approach dangerously close. He starts doing strange stuff to “protect” the family. After months, Jory doesn’t trust his stepfather all that much, Caleb and his signs are just too much. Opening up a new side at school, Jody starts to make friends, even though Caleb asks him to keep his guard up. He makes friends with a girl named Alice and a boy named Erik. After some close calls, he decides not to keep in touch with them after all. Soon, Caleb warns the family that the danger is coming, and is right in their backyard. A huge canyon is in the backyard and Caleb says to start digging. The family starts to sleep less, and Jory starts not doing so well at school - including some humiliating phone calls from his teacher. Jory and his stepsister Kit decide not really to trust their father. Eventually, Caleb betrays them all by revealing he has sent away Kit to keep the family “safe”, and Jory’s mom is horrified and heartbroken. Caleb runs away and now, Jory finally has a peaceful life. An amazing story! I enjoyed the cliffhangers and I love the cover! I recommend this to 9 -10 year olds.

Gabriela (American Girl: Girl of the Year 2017, Book 1)

Gabriela (American Girl: Girl of the Year 2017, Book 1)

By Teresa E. Harris

What I really love about this book is that a girl (Gabriela) tries her best to do good on what she really loves doing, but in this book she does have a stuttering problem. Gabby really likes expressing her self by dancing but poetry is making Gabby feel more freely because of her stuttering problem.

Deadline

Deadline

By Chris Crutcher

Great plot and message. The theme of the story is rather sad yet very strong. I would strongly recommend this book to those who can cope with mature themes. But one way or the other, there really is a bit of heart ache near the end of the book.
