Great character development on Esteban's half, captivating story and occassionaly pretty funny.

Esteban de Sandoval is a cartographer (a maker of maps) working for Admiral Alarcon, a very selfish man. But then, Esteban is sent on a long journey through the new land: Mexico. Along the way he will gain an enormous wealth, of which the Spanish king will demand his fifth.
