Learn all about Inky the Octopus, an international sensation known for escaping from the New Zealand aquarium in April 2016, in this fascinating picture book from National Book Award nominee and octopus expert Sy Montgomery.

Inky had been at the New Zealand aquarium since 2014 after being taken in by a fisherman who found him at sea. Inky had been getting used to his new environment, but the staff quickly figured out that he had to be kept amused or he would get bored. Then one night in 2016 Inky, about the size of a basketball, decided he’d had enough. He slithered eight feet across the floor and down a drainpipe more than 160 feet long to his home in the sea.

Acclaimed author Sy Montogmery reminds readers that Inky didn’t escape—but instead, like the curious animal he is, wanted to explore the rest of the vast ocean he called his home.

The book I read was Inky’s Amazing Escape but most important it is by Sy Montgomery and it is illustrated by Amy Schimier Safford. It was written in 2018. The story's setting was in the ocean and my favorite part was the pictures. Inky grow older and found a place to sleep but it was a lobster net and he got caught in it. The fisherman brought Inky to the aquarium. Inky got put in a tank and he did not like it.At night after a few days he slid out of the lid and went into the dran and the dran landed in the ocean. Inky was back at home happy in the water. What I liked most about the book is the illustrates. For example on page 3 Inky was super small and had small spots and tenties and they are so cute. The tentices look so slimy. I think that because they are in dark shades and lighter shades. The spot make Inky look super cute. I think the setting is deep in the ocean and at an aquarium. I think it is deep in the ocean because the backround is dark. I know when it is dark in the ocean it is deep because the sun light does not reach down deep in the ocean. It is also at an aquarium I think it is an aquarium that a lot of kids go to because it looks like an amazing place and there are a lot of fish there. The pictures were my favorite part and in the ocean was the setting. The book was very exciting. I recommend this book to Pre K - 4 grade that like water and sea animals.

The name of this book is Inkys Amazing Escape this book was written by:Sy Montgomery. The year this was written was 2018 .This book was an exciting story with interesting parts and awesome moments. Inky swims away from his parents. Then he gets capshard by a fisherman. He gets brought to an aquarium! The first night he was there he snuck through the drain back into the ocean! What I liked most about the book was when Inky snuck through the drain. That was my favorite part because I never knew a squid could fit through a drain.I thought that was impossible but I guess not. The story made me feel wierd. It made me feel weird because I did not know that a squid could fit through a drain and that a drain can go underground to the ocean. Also before Inky went into the drain he must have slid on the ground to get to the drain. The interesting parts and awesome moments made me keep reading Inkys Amazing Escape.
