Katherine and her brother Jemmy are surprised when there widowed mother decides to move the family to california to teach. As excited as they are about the life of living near the gold mines, their adventures are far beyond what any of them could have imagined. Such as a stubborn mule, a man with a grudge, unexpected fortune, and opening a restaurant for hungry miners, but Katherine and Jemmy are sure of one thing, the frontier is home sweet home. I liked this story because it had me laughing every chapter. All the funny experiences they go through make the book hilarious and fun to read.

This book is about the gold rush in Idaho in the 1840's. I would highly recommend it! This book is about a girl named Ann Katherine, her brother Jemmy, and their mother and how they move from Portland to Idaho, where there is currently a gold rush! Their mother, Katherine Scott thinks that there must be quite a few women and children in the mining towns, so she decides she will move there and set up a school. Instead she ends up opening a restaurant with the help of Helga Storkerson - a very nice Swede lady- and O'Neil O'Neil. But they must be aware for they have made an enemy, and he is looking for them!
