Carmela Full of Wishes

Carmela Full of Wishes

By Matt de la Peña

This book is about a girl named Carmela and her birthday could not get any better. For her birthday she got a scooter and she was finally old enough to go to town with her brother. But she did not expect her brother to act the way he was acting he was working and ignoring her. In my opinion I think that this book shows that if somebody is giving negative to you then you should not be negative to them. This inspired me to be more kind to everyone. In this book I think they show kindness and compassion. If you like books that start out positive then negative and positive again then this book is for you.

Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague (Fablehaven)

Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague (Fablehaven)

By Brandon Mull

So, in this book, it is all about Kendra and Seth again. There is an weird plague going around, changing light creatures into dark creatures- and someone has to sacrifice themselves to stop it. It all began when the Phoenix was realized to be evil. That was when he started making a LOT of trouble... The thing is, this was an amazing book, with so many plots and surprises. This was a book that I just could not forget. I read this like, at the beginning of this year, but I remember it so clearly.

The Beatrice Letters (A Series of Unfortunate Events)

The Beatrice Letters (A Series of Unfortunate Events)

By Lemony Snicket

If you've been following Lemony Snicket's A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, then you've undoubtedly read of Beatrice Baudelaire. Who she is, exactly, is a mystery. And although this book is entitled THE BEATRICE LETTERS, don't think that you'll finally learn who Beatrice is. You won't. In fact, there's not a whole lot you'll learn about anything or anyone having to do with the series. Don't get me wrong. THE BEATRICE LETTERS is fun. It's gorgeously packaged. It comes with a poster, a dossier of sorts that contains letters to Beatrice and letters from Beatrice. It has ingenious pop-out letters that you can use to attempt to decode a number of anagrams. It has business cards. It has pictures of a metal tool and a paperweight. It has, in fact, all manner of beautifully put together items that tell you nothing. For the ultimate A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS fan, this is a book you must include in your collection. For the bored fan, this is a book that will provide you with hours of hair-pulling frustration as you attempt to decipher clues that seem to have no answer. For the mid-line fan, this is a book that just looks pretty. For cleverness, ingenuity, and presentation, THE BEATRICE LETTERS gets 5 Stars. For content, or at least helpful content, the book gets 3 Stars. Overall, a 4 Star read, but one I would recommend most strongly to the biggest Baudelaire devotee.

Stink (Book #1): The Incredible Shrinking Kid

Stink (Book #1): The Incredible Shrinking Kid

By Megan McDonald

This is book is so awesome! It caught my eye in the library because I love the Judy Moody books. I think that Stink is as funny as Judy. I like this book. It is simply hilarious! I was laughing at every page turner. I won't spoil it with any specifics, but if you like comics or a kid who writes comics then I think you will love, Love, LOve, LOVe, LOVE this book!

Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great (Fudge)

Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great (Fudge)

By Judy Blume

Another great one by Judy Blume. In This book Blume made Shelia finally a star. In the other books like tales of a fourth grade nothing, Shelia tried to shine out but now she got the own book. Shelia is definetly a character but it's really funny. An easy read.

I Love You, Michael Collins

I Love You, Michael Collins

By Lauren Baratz-Logsted

This book is so good! It's 1969, and Mamie and her classmates are all given assignments to write letters to astronauts. Only Mamie writes to Michael Collins, the astronaut who will never walk on the moon, because he must stay with the ship, and after this trip NASA will never use him again, because there are so many other astronauts who want to go to space. She tells him about her family--her mom, her dad, her older sister Eleanor, her other sister Bess, her best friend Buster, and her cat. One night, her mom and dad have a fight, and her mom leaves, and soon after her dad tries to go after her. Eleanor, who moved out some years ago, doesn't stay long, and Bess leaves to stay with her boyfriend, and even Campbell the cat runs away. She had tried to throw a "Moonwalk Party", something her mom had wanted to do but her dad had objected, and then Mom left. But with no one there except Buster, is her party a lost cause? Will her parents get a divorce? And will the astronauts get to and from the moon safely?
