Kids Books - Romance
Not If I Save You First
By Ally Carter
This book is interesting. It is very suspenseful and funny. But it is a little uncomfortably romantic. I would warn that from the summary the book gives, you don't know that it is pretty much a romance book. Other than that, I really liked this book. Maddie is not a normal girl. Her father is the Secret Service for the POTUS. And Maddie is friends with the POTUS's son, Logan. But after a life changing event, Maddie and her father must leave Washington D.C. and move to Alaska. That means leaving Logan. In Alaska, Maddie is a new person. She's tough, strong, and confident. Maddie, over the years, has tried to keep in contact with Logan but he has never written back. Maddie finally forgets about Logan. But one day, Logan shows up in Alaska. Maddie is ready to hate him, but inwardly she still misses him. After he gets kidnapped in Alaska, Maddie must make the decision to save him and reconcile. This book is pretty good. I think it would have been better if there weren't romantic parts but that is just my opinion. I suggest it if you like girl-power, romance, adventure and friendship. Happy reading!

Winter
By Marissa Meyer
This book is an absolutely amazing conclusion to the lunar chronicles series! It is a pretty thick book and took me a long time to read it, but it was totally worth it. This book focuses mainly on Winter, Levana's beautiful step daughter, and is based on the fairy tale Snow White. Winter is rumored to be the fairest girl in all the land, which upsets Levana very much. This is why, previously, Levana forced Winter to scar herself on her cheek, but much to Levana's dismay, this seemed to accentuate Winter's beauty even more. Winter also refuses to use glamour to hide her scars or to manipulate anyone, after she realized very young that glamour could be used for more evil than good. This causes Winter to have hallucinations and go crazy once in a while, because she refuses to use her gift. And of course, there has to be a love interest, in this case it is the royal guard Jacin. If that name sounds familiar, you are correct, Jacin was present in the previous book, Cress, but is thought to have betrayed the Rampion crew. He came back to Luna and is now appointed as Winter's personal guard. Meanwhile, on the Rampion, Cinder, Wolf, Cress, Iko, and Captain Thorne, are formulating a plan to overthrow Levana, and rescue Scarlet from Luna. But in order to do this they have to get onto Luna, and this is where Kai comes in. He needs to find a way to move the wedding and coronation to Luna, instead of Earth, this proves to be the simple part, because there are much more hardships ahead. The book follows the journeys of everyone as they get separated, reunited, and reacquainted over and over again. Winter and Scarlet escape from the castle, faking Winters death, where they meet Cress after she had gotten separated from Cinder, Thorne, Wolf, and Iko when they made a big scene escaping from the docks. Their plan has to be modified many times over, but in the end they all live happily ever after, but after way more sacrifices and battles then the original fairy tales ever had. This series is by far my favorite of all time, I loved the author's creativity in mixing so many different genres, the classic fairy tale, futuristic technology, sci-fi battles, fantasy adventure, and a hint of romance. Every middle schooler should have a chance to read this series, because you won't regret it.
Five Feet Apart
By Rachael Lippincott
Imagine being in love with someone but not being able to get within 6 feet of them. Five Feet Apart by Racheal Lippincott, is told from Stella Grant's perspective, along with Will Newman’s. Stella Grant suffers from cystic fibrosis (CF) and is waiting for a lung transplant. She’s had CF for almost her whole life and has been in Saint Grace’s Hospital for a long time too. She’s used to being in control of everything and Saint Grace’s is her second home. Will Newman is the complete opposite. He has just come to Saint Grace’s after being in several different hospitals because of his CF but also B ceptica. Will does whatever he wants and whenever he wants. Stella meets Will and instantly she hates him. She doesn’t like how he doesn’t care about his meds or health. Stella tries to help Will out by getting him to take his meds, but something unexpected happens, they fall in love. Except they can’t get closer than 6 feet or they can die. Anyone who enjoys romance with a big conflict should read this book. In my opinion this book is good for 6th graders and up. It has a mature context but isn’t widely inappropriate. I really liked this book because the story was told from both characters' point of views. This helped me understand how both Will and Stella felt.

Destroy Me (Shatter Me Book 1)
By Tahereh Mafi
Amazing. You really get to see Warner's true character. Emotionally challenging, and very intense, this is the book to read.
P.S. I Like You
By Kasie West
This romance made me feel like I was in the clouds. I actually read this as an e-book, and that says something. If you know me, then you'll know that I prefer a physical book to words on a screen, but this book was so captivating, I couldn't just leave it there on my tablet! Three cheers for Kasie West!

The Sun is also a Star
By NICOLA YOON
This book is as bright and beautiful as the stars in the night sky! The Sun is Also a Star is narrated by Daniel and Natasha, two characters with very different personalities. While Daniel is poetic and believes in the power of dreams and love, Natasha thinks scientific facts and a reliable, structured life are enough. But when they meet one fateful day in New York City, their lives are changed forever by each other. The author, Nicola Yoon, has always been great with representation in her books, and this novel doesn't disappoint: The Sun is Also a Star is racially diverse and explores unique life situations, such as Natasha being an illegal immigrant living in the United States. The main thing I disliked about the book was that, even though there were 300+ pages, the story is just one day of Daniel and Natasha's lives. And in just those 24 hours, Daniel and Natasha somehow fell in love and knew they were meant to be. The point of the book was to justify "love at first sight," but it just wasn't understandable to me and often seemed cheesy. Luckily, Yoon is a skilled enough writer for the story to not be excruciatingly slow. I was still able to enjoy the story. This is definitely a very real story about how nothing is ever predictable. I would recommend it to teen readers looking for romance and rumination!
