A Curse So Dark and Lonely

A Curse So Dark and Lonely

By Brigid Kemmerer

I really liked this book (as you can tell by my 5 stars). Although it takes a little bit to get the action started, it is a good read. I'm not a big fan of romance, but the romance wasn't too bad in the story. My personal favorite character was Grey. I liked the ending, which leaves you waiting for the sequel that's coming out on Jan 7, 2020. It did have a few words that aren't curse words but aren't exactly the greatest words to say and a few mentions of mature things. There were some parts that younger kids wouldn't get, so I'd recommend it for ages 12+. All in all, it was a great book and a very original reimagining of Beauty and the Beast.

Heartless

Heartless

By Marissa Meyer

(Spoiler-free review) Catherine Pinkerton loves to bake, and she dreams of opening a bakery with her maid friend, Mary Ann. Although she wants this badly, her parents would never approve of a girl that had a chance of being the future queen “destroying” her status to own a business. At a ball where Catherine learns of the king’s intent to propose to her, she meets the court jester, Jest, and falls deeply in love, but fate has other plans. This book is my favorite of all time. Marissa Meyer writes so beautifully, and she will make you love the characters so much. It’s a retelling/origin story of the Queen of Hearts, and it tells of how she became so heartless. The book itself is long, but it is a real page-turner and will rip your heart out at the ending. I read this book in less than one day, maybe about five hours—I couldn’t tear myself away. The characters, scenes, and the overwhelming emotion made me feel something too as I screamed at the pages. Yes, this book destroyed me emotionally, but you should definitely read it—I’ve never felt any emotions as strong as this while reading a book. There’s also a musical version on YouTube, it’s pretty book accurate, but I haven’t watched the whole thing. As for the age range for this book, I’d say maybe 14 and up, but if you’re a teenager, you should be able to read this book (like I did). Yes, it has romance, but it’s not very explicit, but I don’t think that people under 13 should read it. Overall, the characters are amazing and so is the character development. I fell in love with all of the characters and it’s overall a really great book, and you should read it!

Caraval

Caraval

By Stephanie Garber

I LOVE Caraval! It’s my absolute favorite book series! It’s about this game called Caraval that blurs between reality and fantasy. The other two books in the series are just as good! I would highly recommend this trilogy to readers that love fantasy, adventure, mystery, and a hint of romance! Go check it out! You’re gonna love it!

Love Hurts

Love Hurts

By Malorie Blackman

Love Hurts is a really interesting book, it is a collection of short love stories from different authors. I think the author did a really great job on showing all sorts of love, there are times when love makes you smile, but there are also times when your love is the one who hurts you the most. Even though sometimes love hurts, you should never give up on love. One of my favorite story from this collection is "GentleWoman" by Laura Dockrill. This story not only shows love, it also presented believing in yourself and having confidence! I also think that there are some really inspiring quotes in this book, one of them is "Why is everyone so brainwashed into believing that they have to be in a relationship with one other person?" You don't have to be with someone else in order to be happy, being single doesn't mean you're alone! Another great quote is "Sometimes love needed a lift from its guardian angels, to get its feet off the ground. But once it made its first early beats toward flight, it had to be trusted to take wing on its own and soar past the highest conceivable heights, into the heavens-and beyond." This quote describes love relationships really well and in a extremely beautiful way. Overall, I think this is a really inspiring and amazing book, I would definitely recommend it for everyone, especially for those who has ever loved and lost.

Reached (Matched Trilogy Book 3)

Reached (Matched Trilogy Book 3)

By Ally Condie

Meg

I really like what the series is about which is choosing what you want. I thinks the series ended good and I like how the author lets us know what was happening with each character because of the way the chapters were set up. A great book for people who want a page turner. Read them in order though.

Princess in Pink (Princess Diaries, Vol. 5)

Princess in Pink (Princess Diaries, Vol. 5)

By Meg Cabot

In her heart of hearts, all Mia Thermopolis (Princess of Genovia) wants to do is go to the prom. She can just imagine it: twirling into the night with Michael Moscovitz, her own true love, in a pink floor-length dress that even Lana Weinberger would be jealous of. But achieving her daydreams is more difficult than Mia imagined. She knows that Michael loves her, but he adamantly refuses to attend his senior prom. He's rather go bowling, he says. BOWLING! Now, where's the romance in that, Mia asks? On top of that, her best friend Lilly is dating a boy named Jangbu behind her real boyfriend Boris' back; Tina's going through heartbreak not being able to attend the prom; her grandmother is involved in a restaurant scandal with said Jangbu; Mia's mom is pregnant again; and all the while, Michael remains oblivious to Mia's deep desires. Even as a princess, Mia seems unable to get what she wants. In the end, will Mia be in Michael's arms under the dreamy lights of the prom, or will she be at home eating her own chocolates spending another prom night alone?

Four: A Divergent Collection (Divergent Series Story)

Four: A Divergent Collection (Divergent Series Story)

By Veronica Roth

The idea for this book is really good. Instead of focusing on Tris's point of view (in the 1-3rd books), the story takes on an interesting spin as the reader gets put in Four's shoes. I read a lot about his background, told from his own perspective. I really like the way the author chose the moments to write about, it highlighted the most significant moments in Four's life to make him more understandable and relatable to the readers. The thing I liked most was that the author didn't just focus on Tris as the main character, in the fourth book she made Four the main protagonist and led the readers through the events of his life. However I wished the book was a whole length novel with continous chapters instead of long narratives because it would make it seem more realistic, like you were actually THERE, instead of reading a diary. In conclusion, this book was really good!
