By Nora Raleigh Baskin

Nora Raleigh Baskin, the author of Anything But Typical, takes her readers on an adventure through the life of an autistic 12 year old in modern day. In this book, Jason blake and his family are described as very nice, kind, and caring people. Jason has many challenges and still is able to live an almost normal life. His parents and siblings, very supportive and helpful to him. With them by his side, he can do anything. Jason overcomes many challenges in everyday places. School, public places such as stores, and home. But most recently he will be to a convention. When Jason looks on a website for stories to read, he always goes to Phoenix Birds story. A girl named Rebecca. He finds out that this website is having a convention and she will be there. He decides to go with his father but is scared that she will judge him based on his looks than by his personality. Baskin’s story takes the reader through a long journey of how Jason Blake thinks. The way he sees and understands the world. She describes the thoughts and feelings that Jason cannot express. It is told in his perspective on the world. Jason sees and feels things differently. For example, in the book, he feels differently about belts than other people do. “ I couldn’t stand the waistband and the stiffness of the material. My mother bought me leggings from this special catalog. They came in all different colors, and they were made of one hundred percent cotton. And she never made me wear pants.” This book is written like you were in his brain. And that is neat. Anything But Typical is a book that will have your emotions going up and down like a mountain. It made me happy, nervous, and sad. Anything but typical won the Schneider Family book award. It has many positive comments and reviews from critics. I highly recommend this book.
All Four Stars
By Tara Dairman
Gladys Gatsby is an AMAZING cook. Problem is, nobody in her family cares. Also, she nearly burned her house down making creme brulee when her parents weren't home. So, when she learns a space has opened up for food reviewer at her local newspaper, she gets an idea. She sends a application, not mentioning she is only 12 years old. The hijinks that ensue after she gets the job are purely hilarious! I read the Stars of Summer and am currently reading Stars So Sweet. I LOVE this series and HIGHLY recommend it if you enjoy humor and food, like me.
All the Impossible Things
By Lindsay Lackey
This book is so inspiring. This is an absolute must-read, and I suggest you read it if you know what it's like to not have a good family, or have seen the effects of drugs.

School of Fear
By Gitty Daneshvari
This amazing book is about 4 children who each have different things they are afraid of. Lets start with Madeleine Masterson who is terrified of BUGS, and loves Garrison Next there's Theodore Bartholomew who is petrified of dying. Then there is Garrison Feldman who is scared of deep water, well actually he doesn't like any water. They are sent of to live with Mrs.Wellington the way she teaches may be more frighten then you thought. It could just as well be the worst summer ever.
Elsewhere
By Gabrielle Zevin
Liz hears her worst thought confirmed. She's dead. This is her story of Elsewhere, where you never get older, only younger. When you're finally 7 days old, you get shipped off as a baby. Liz died when she was 15, and meets new people she would never had met had she not been in Elsewhere. If you want mystery, this book's got mystery. I think that everyone should read this amazing book.
Frozen Twisted Tale: Conceal, Don't Feel: A Twisted Tale
By Jen Calonita
This is 100% my favorite Disney Twisted Tale. When I first saw the little subtitle, "What if Anna and Elsa never knew each other?" I was so curious to see how that would actually work given how close the sisters are in the original movie. Of course, I can't say that I like this plot better than the original, but this should really be turned into a movie. That would be soooo cool!
