Torn (The Missing)

Torn (The Missing)

By Margaret Peterson Haddix

The fourth book in The Missing; Jonah and Katherine are sent to 1611 to fix (and save) the year 1600. Jonah is supposed to act like John Hudson, Henry Hudson’s son on his ship The Discovery. With a futuristic exact John Hudson costume being worn by Jonah, he is the perfect John Hudson and Katherine is invisible. With a planned mutiny of Henry Hudson onboard, Jonah and Katherine need to figure out how to save history. Henry Hudson surrenders to the mutineers and agrees to go on a shallop with a few other shipmates to find the Northwest Passage. After they narrowly escape an iceberg, they see the ship coming back for them from the south when it was headed North. Then they spot the Northwest Passage. Second is at the helm and changing history up. So, after Jonah is put in the stocks and they find out one of the men is Second, they go back in time to where they were in the shallop trying to make things right and not be forced by Second’s hand. Will history fall apart, or will they succeed in making things right? What I thought about it Margaret Peterson Haddix is a wonderful author. She writes books in a way that you can see what’s happening clearly with your imagination. I discovered her from Into The Gauntlet, the tenth 39 Clues book. Then I read Found and Sent and loved those so I said, “Why not continue the series?” So I did with Sabotaged and Torn. It took me a long time to read both of them and I was actually anxious to finish and get on with another book. Sabotaged in my opinion was pretty confusing in some parts; I liked it, but there are so many things happening, that at one point it just confuses you. I had similar feelings with Torn, but it was slow-paced and didn’t have enough action. I have started reading the next one and I hope it will be better. I was sort of disappointed that Haddix made me want to finish to read something else. I hope she redeems herself with some other good books in the series.

I really loved this book because I'm really interested in science fiction. Before I read book 1, Found, I thought I wouldn't like the series. But now after I read book 1, I started reading all of the other books. Now I waiting for book, I think 7 or 8 to come out and I'm really excited

Caught (The Missing)

Caught (The Missing)

By Margaret Peterson Haddix

When time freezes in Jonah’s 7th grade science class, he knows something’s wrong. Five minutes later, Jonah and Katherine are speeding through time. They are in the year 1903, right next to Albert and Mileva Einstein themselves. When Mileva sees the Elucidator floating in thin air, she grabs it and shoves it in her pocket. She goes on a long journey to see her eighteen-month old child, Lieserl with Jonah and Katherine following her, and she realizes that they are there. They have gotten caught. With Mileva now having the knowledge of time-travel, will Jonah and Katherine be able to save history? And with a thirteen year old Lieserl in place of the eighteen-month old one, will they be able to keep Lieserl secret, and Mileva’s mouth shut? In an epic pageturner with shocking information revealed, Will history be in ruins, or will they be able to save the mess they made? What I thought about it: I did not want to read Caught. After I read Torn, I did not want to continue the series. But, I wanted to give Margaret Peterson Haddix another chance, so I continued the series. And I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed Caught. It might’ve been because it involved the Einsteins, and it was cool reading about their early life, as well as their later life in the Author’s Note. I love the Author’s Note in all of the books, it just gives you the fascinating history behind the story. I also really like the idea of time freezing; it sounds like a made-up thing, but this book makes it seem real. Then there’s the part where Mileva sees her daughter eleven years older than she was a second before. Imagine that happening to you; I think you would at least have a heart attack. There are so many interesting concepts in this book that it makes you think. Haddix is a very great author and I am glad she has redeemed herself with this novel that is hard to stop reading. So, find out if history collapses and read this book!

As excited as they are about the life of living near the gold mines, their adventures are far beyond what any of them could have imagined. Such as a stubborn mule, a man with a grudge, unexpected fortune, and opening a restaurant for hungry miners, but Katherine and Jemmy are sure of one thing, the frontier is home sweet home. Ever wonder how hot air balloons fly? Ever wondered who invented them? If so, you have chosen the best book to turn your questions into answers. It describes the nerve-racking flight of the first hot air balloon ever flown, with the classics of a version with a duck and other barn animals on the balloon. It is a nice book that describes the first hot air balloon ride and shows the historical story of the world's first hot-air balloon.

Growing Up with Aloha: A Nanea Classic 1 (American Girl Beforever Classic)

Growing Up with Aloha: A Nanea Classic 1 (American Girl Beforever Classic)

By Kirby Larson

When I received this book from DOGObooks, I was thrilled to start reading! Nanea Mitchell is a 9-year-old girl who is growing up during the beginning of World War II in Hawaii. Nanea is tired of being called the baby of the family and is determined to prove herself responsible by winning a 'Helping Hand' contest with the help of her 2 best friends, Lily and Donna. But after the attacks by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, where Nanea's dad works, the contest doesn't seem to matter anymore. Lily's father has been taken away, and Donna and her mother might have to leave Hawaii because they are labeled "unnecessary" by the government! Plus, Nanea's beloved puppy is missing! Everything is a mess. Nanea doesn't know what to do besides try to help out as much as she can. But being a kid amidst the war, it will be hard. Will life in Hawaii ever be the same? This book is outstanding! I didn't know too much about Pearl Harbor before reading this book, but now I've learned a lot! This book has humor, adventure, and a twist at the end that will make you want to read the sequel! I recommend this book for kids 8+!

Mara Daughter of the Nile

Mara Daughter of the Nile

This book is incredible. It is about a poor slave girl Mara in egypt, who is very smart, and speaks both egyptian and babylonian. For that very reason a mysterious man buys her from her previous owner, telling her that if she serves him as a spy, rooting out the rebels that are fighting against the queen, then he will set her free. Mara has dreamed of freedom all of her life, and will do anything to gain it, but as she goes undercover she finds herself tangled in an astonishing web of politics, treason, and worst of all, love. Mara is now playing double spy, working for both sides, but sooner or later she has to choose what means more to her, freedom for herself, or for all of egypt. This book was so good I couldn't put it down. I love how quick-witted Mara is, and the choices she are faced with are Incredible! It deserves a five star rating for sure. The author got me rooting for the main characters at the start.

Do kids really come cheaper by the dozen? Yes and No. This book is hilarious. The Gilbreth family is a large one indeed, and cutting costs is next to impossible. But this family runs efficiently. And hilariously. As the Gilbreth family pulls together, they go through all sorts of hilarious experiences and events that keep you laughing throughout the whole book. This was a really great read.
