The Iron Dragon Never Sleeps

The Iron Dragon Never Sleeps

By Stephen Krensky

he Iron Dragon Never Sleeps, by Stephen Krensky, wants to put into your mind that strangers can come and seriously change how you think. In 1867, Winnie was staying at Cisco, California, for the summer. There, she met a Chinese tea carrier named Lee Cheng, who was working for the Pacific Railroad. They were going to meet up with the Central Railroad to create the Transcontinental one. They became friends by randomly seeing each other, but the Chinese Workers started up a week-long strike, complaining about the dreadful working hours. Before, Americans had thought that Chinese loved to work on the railroad. Winnie needed to decide which side she was on, and why. Later, the revolt had been put down, and the Chinese earned two more dollars a month. Now, they thought that the Chinese didn’t love work nearly as much as they expected. Finally, in 1869, the railroad was finally completed. I recommend this fictional story placed in a real setting for boys and girls grades third to fourth.

Warriors Super Edition: Graystripe's Vow

Warriors Super Edition: Graystripe's Vow

By Erin Hunter

Infinity stars--First of all, let me just say that this book made me SPEECHLESS. Speechless in a good way. It was beautiful, and heartbreaking, and...I don't have the words to describe it. Graystripe's Vow was absolutely amazing! Important life advice: go to the library right now and READ THIS BOOK!!! So, I'm a Warriors superfan, and I've been reading this series for about two years. When Graystripe's Vow finally came out, I was SO excited. I absolutely NEEDED to read this! As soon as I checked out this book from the library, I started flipping the pages in anticipation. And boy, was I in for a real treat. --Summary: I expected a lot from this book, and as usual, Erin Hunter did not disappoint. Graystripe's Vow is packed with action, heartbreak, and suspense. The book centers around ThunderClan, a group of wild cats that live around a lake. These cats hunt, fight for territory, and look after each other. There are also four other Clans, called SkyClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, and RiverClan. All five Clans are reeling from a recent event that shook them to their cores. A dead spirit cat took over the body of ThunderClan's leader, causing havoc. Now, the spirit cat is a prisoner in ShadowClan, but the Clans' problems aren't over. ThunderClan is broken, shocked by what happened to their leader. To try and help his Clan, a cat named Graystripe journeys into his past and goes on a mission that might change the fate of all the Clans. Will his mission succeed? --Characters: I LOVED all the characters in this book, especially Graystripe. He's brave, loyal, intelligent, and caring. I think Graystripe is one of the most amazing heroes in the entire Warriors series! I also liked Gremlin, Fang, and the WarriorClan cats (Monkeystar and her friends were hilarious!). I do wish some of the side characters, like Squirrelflight, Flywhisker, Flipclaw, the Tribe of Rushing Water, the kittypets, and Ashfur would have appeared more in the story. --Lastly, I have three things to say: 1) I loved this book. 2) I LOVED THIS BOOK! 3) DID I MENTION THAT I LOVED THIS BOOK?!?! Graystripe's Vow is now one of my favorite books, and I think everyone needs to read it! I would DEFINITELY recommend this book!

Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat (Emmy and the Rat)

Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat (Emmy and the Rat)

By Lynne Jonell

Emmy and the incredible Shrinking rat by Lynne Jonell is about a brave girl with some gigantic secrets. Emmy is a beautiful girl and her parents love her very much. When she gets home her dad comes and talks to her about school and then they read books since they live in a bookstore. Now that all happened before the move. The move. A horrible dreadful thing. Ever since they moved her parents have been gone a lot! They also got a new nanny. Emmy goes to school of course but her teacher never remembers her name! Not even the kids in her class can remember her name! Their class has a pet rat. Emmy enjoys her class’s rat. Sometimes she’ll stay inside for recess to talk to the rat. Then once it bit her! She still talked to it though. Once it talked back! Then she brought it home. She fed it peanut butter cups and other things. Her nanny didn’t know about this rat though. One day she met a friend and he had got bitten by the rat once and then right then he got bitten again. The second bite made him shrink so now Emmy had two tiny living things to take care of. She decided to skip out on tap classes and go to some shops. When her nanny came walking by she went into this antique shop to hide. She saw many animals that all had magical powers! And the rat that she is taking care of can talk to her so he said something about his sister in there! She leaves the shop to go home. A few days later her nanny tells her that her parents are coming home soon for a bit. When they get there their nanny makes yummy potato things. Emmy figures out that inside the potato things the nanny is putting something. That is part of the tale of Emmy and the incredible shrinking rat. If you want to know more than I think you should read this book! If you like mysteries this is the book for you. Also if you like funny books this will also be a good fit. I appreciate this book because it is very mysterious and still has some humor in it. That is why you should read this book.

If you've read the Warriors series, you'll know that warrior cats have to follow a specific set of rules, called the Warrior Code. It includes stuff like "the leader should have a deputy" and "clan cats shouldn't trespass on other clans' territory." But how were these special rules created? As it turns out, many of these rules had events that led to them being added to the code! But just how, exactly? Well, if you want to find out, you should read this book! This book is perfect for people who enjoyed the main series.

The Jungle Book-Treasury of Illustrated Classics Storybooks Collection by Rudyard Kipling (2013-01-21)

By Rudyard Kipling

The Jungle Book, by Rudyard Kipling, tells that even a little child can be astounding. Once, there was a boy named Mowgli. He was raised by a pack of wolves in the rainforests of India. Later though, he had to move to the village. Unfortunately, soon he was driven out by an old man because he thought he had bad behavior, but Mowgli did some amazing things, like skin a tiger. Nearby, there was a mongoose called Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Rikki-Tikki was brought to Teddy’s home, but during the night, snakes would come there. The mongoose killed the intruding snakes! Finally, there was another boy called Little Toomai. Petersen Sahib, who caught all the elephants for the government, told him that he could have a job when the elephants danced, which Petersen thought meant never. Sahib said this because he didn’t want him to have job ever. Little Toomai waited, and soon the elephants started to dance! The hunters all had a feast, just because Little Toomai, who had seen elephants dancing. I recommend this story, having three stories in it, for boys and girls, grades third to fifth.

This book is about friendship. There are four main characters: a mole, a rat, a badger, and a toad. The story begins when the mole heads out of his burrow. He sees the rat, who is just about to go paddling. He decides to go paddling with the rat. An otter comes by, and agrees to have lunch with them. Halfway through lunch, the badger comes by. At the moment, he is shy and walks away. then, when the mole and the rat paddle away, disaster struck. The mole gets a turn to row, and accidentally capsized the boat. The rat rescues some of the items dropped, but loses the luncheon basket. They have many adventures, and meet many new friends. The story ends with the toad, who is arrogant, boastful, and vainglory, totally changing.
