Two teens must learn the “art of killing” in this Printz Honor–winning book, the first in a chilling new series from Neal Shusterman, author of the New York Times bestselling Unwind dystology.

A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Scythe is the first novel of a thrilling new series by National Book Award–winning author Neal Shusterman in which Citra and Rowan learn that a perfect world comes only with a heavy price.

This book is amazing it grips you in and is an awesome book it is about two kids who live in a world controlled by The Thunderhead or AI they humans cannot die unless a scythe kills them but the word in this story is glean this is needed to keep the population under control these two kids are chosen to be trained to be a scythe so will they hate their job or love it read scythe to find out

Great book for those who aren't afraid to read something....a little bit scary for younger kids. Rowan Damisch and Citra Terrenova live in a perfect world overseen by a perfect AI. The Thunderhead is a digital mind that makes sure everything runs smoothly. It sees into schools, homes, and drives most vehicles. The only thing that the Thunderhead can't control is Scythes. Since the Earth can only hold so many people, Scythes were created. A Scythe is someone with a really high moral standard that is chosen to "glean" or kill other people to help keep the population under control. But what would happen if a Scythe loves their job.....and joyful when they glean? --BKS

This book was incredible. The characters were really well-written and the idea of this kind of utopia was really intriguing-- one where there was so little problems that people did previously unforeseen and radical acts for fun. For example, here one can escape aging and death because of the advanced medical technology, which means that there is only one way to control the population-- scythes. Scythes are reapers who "glean" the population and is considered the most honorable and rewarding job. One day, Scythe Faraday chooses Rowan and Citra to become his scythe apprentices. The reason why they're so surprised is that they both agree on the same thing: "I will never become a scythe". They believe that killing people is inhumane and absolutely refuse to join him. However, when they realise what's at stake and what it really means to be a scythe, who will receive the title in the end?

Exactly! That's right on! This is a great book review!
