With over one million copies sold, this series of modern classics about the charming Penderwick family from National Book Award winner and New York Times bestseller Jeanne Birdsall is perfect for fans of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager.

This summer the Penderwick sisters have a wonderful surprise: a holiday on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. Soon they are busy discovering the summertime magic of Arundel’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. But the best discovery of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, who quickly proves to be the perfect companion for their adventures.

The icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is not as pleased with the Penderwicks as Jeffrey is, though, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Which, of course, they will—won’t they? One thing’s for sure: it will be a summer the Penderwicks will never forget.

Deliciously nostalgic and quaintly witty, this is a story as breezy and carefree as a summer day.

The Penderwicks is about four sisters who are on vacation for the summer. They think everything is going perfectly but when they meet the dreaded Mrs. Tifton they think their summer might go downhill. Then they meet Mrs. Tifton's son, Jeffery and when he befriends them they go on adventures. Their summer is one to remember.

I have read this book so many times yet it is still funny and heart warming. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a funny read. The author does a great job with the characters.

Best book ever!!!!!!! And now, there's four books!!!!

This book is the first adventure in a trilogy about four sisters - Rosalind, Skye, Jane and Batty - and their families. In this book, the six Penderwicks family members (the sisters, their dad and their dog) spend their holiday in a cottage on the grounds of a beautiful estate called Arundel. This sets the stage for secrets, danger, emotion, adventure and fun. It's a very good read and really hard to put down once you get started. This book has a very unique charm about it.

It was good . i liked batty , i also liked Skye shes a good character . I am like Batty. My oldest sister is like Rosalind and my other sister is like Skye. It was a fun book.

This book is seems like something my sisters and I would do. It is so funny, sweet, adventurous, and a little dangerous! I love Rosalind she is just like me! (Very Girly)

I felt like I could place me and my sisters in the places of the different characters. My favorite character was Skye because she is really funny and a lot like me. She does have a bad temper but knows how to have fun. My favorite part of the book was the ending. It made me want to read the second book in the series right away. This was a hard book to put down.
