This book is truly inspiring and amazing. It makes me want to cry, but at the same time it is just so inspiring and makes you look at life in such a different way. Jonas lives in a world with no color, both figuratively and literally. In a world where the only memories of the past are in the mind of the one chosen to be the receiver, Jonas has to choose between what's right and what's expected.

exactly right! I enjoy how jonas ends up receiving color and seeing the world in its beautiful state
This has been one of my favorite books for years. It's a beautiful story in a futuristic but not-so-unbelievable world where everyone is the same and no one has any choices. The past is not remembered, except by the Giver. He holds the memories of the past for the whole town, the whole world. But his time is fading and the town will have a new Giver: Jonas. But can Jonas handle the weight of all the world?
I wonder why the world hid from some of its greatest achievement...
I connected to this book when I read about a managed community. First Jonas' sister is becoming an eight year old. Next Jonas becomes a twelve year old. Last Jonas meets the Giver towards the end. I would give this book a four star because the book shows how life would be in a managed community.
This was an interesting book, but it was very complicated. I didn't like it much, but others might like it.
I like this book a lot but there's one part that I don't like, which is the part that Jonas's father killed the smaller twin and said " bye bye little." It was CREEPY
That was a very creepy event.. I wonder why they did it. Was it to cut down population?

This book was a really cool book! Jonas was the only person in his city to see color, He was also the only person who wanted to find the secrets that the city keeps from everyone. Read the book to find out what he finds, and who helps him along the way!
This is a really interesting book. It is about a town of people in the future who have taken away any diversity, and everything in the community is planned and organized, from jobs to homes to food. No one has pain, and no one has any defects. They are a society that is perfect and remembers nothing of the past. But there is one person, the Giver. He remembers all the past. Rainbows, elephants, snow. Sledding. He is the one, the keeper of all the memories these people have chosen to let go of for the sake of feeling no pain. But one must keep these memories alive, and it's someone else's turn. Jonas is chosen to be the Giver-in-training. The Giver trains Jonas. He shares these raw and real memories of a past everyone has forgotten, memories of pain, like war, or happiness, like soft grass. Jonas slowly takes on the pain of each new memory, feeling each sunburn and gun shot physically. And with each new memory Jonas receives, the Giver loses them. This story is heavy and happy and forlorn and endearing. I would highly recommend it.

It is a science fiction book and is one of my favorites. i personally am not really into science fiction books but this one is really good. I would suggest this book to anyone over 10 because it is a little harsh in some spots but is a reall thriller
