This book follows the adventures of a teen who is a master thief and criminal who operates from the slums of a city called Ketterdam, and the heist he must pull off along with a gang of fellow criminals. The heist, however, has a catch, The seven criminals must save a scientist who has created a brilliant yet dangerous invention: a drug that enhances the powers of Grisha, who are people with extraordinary abilities. I loved this book because of the complexity of the heist, and the personalities of all of the gang. They all have their own special additions to the crew, and I loved the mix of characters. In addition, Leigh Bardugo's writing is impeccable and really keeps you wanting more. 5 stars for sure.

Six of Crows is a fantasy/action/adventure story about a group of misfits set on a dangerous heist. Seventeen year old Kaz Brekker is a hardened criminal who has made a life for himself in the dangerous city of Ketterdam, the uglier equivalent of Earth's Las Vegas. Kaz is hired by a rich merchant by the name of Jan Van Eck, who wants Kaz to steal a scientist with secrets regarding a coveted drug. The only catch is that the scientist in question, Bo Yul-Bayur, is currently being held captive by the Fierdans, a nation in the North that is not on good terms with the rest of the world. The job is dangerous, nearly impossible, and would likely end up in Kaz's utter demise, so naturally he accepts. Kaz puts together a team of 5 other misfits: Inej the silent acrobat, Nina the magical waffle lover, Matthias the uptight soldier, Jesper the sharpshooter, and Wylan the demolitions expert. The six crazy teenagers embark on the dangerous heist that may claim all of their lives. This book was a fascinating read that kept me guessing until the very end. It consisted of strong female characters, minority representation, and incredible LGBTQA+ characters. While Six of Crows is a sequel series to the Shadow and Bone books, they are not required to enjoy Six of Crows. In fact, I personally believe that the Six of Crows books outshine the Shadow and Bone books completely. I would recommend this book for middle and high school readers, for it consists of several gruesome scenes, some sexual content, and light swearing. Overall, Six of Crows was an outstanding book that fantasy and action adventure lovers should read as soon as possible.

Featuring amazing heists, lovable characters, great friendships, and lots of waffles, Six of Crows is by far one of my favorite books of all time. The plot and world felt almost tangible, and after reading, I found myself longing to travel to Ketterdam. This extraordinary book has female characters that seemed real and believable, and they were people who I could root for in the story. Many fantasy novels tire out the "damsel in distress" trope, as they do the "overprotective boy who will kill you if you tough his girl" cliche, but this book does neither. Inej and Nina are powerful protagonists, as are Wylan, Jesper, Kaz, and Matthias. If you like heists, LGBTQ+ representation, hilarious friendly banter, and the occasional waffle, you will love Six of Crows.

This was a really well done book about six teens who are offered a chance at completing a heist for 30 million kruge (that is the currency in this book). I think the characters were my favorite part of this. I liked exploring each one of their personalities. And I know, some people may totally disagree, but I found most of the content in this suitable for someone 11 and up. I read it when I was 10 myself, and there was nothing that disturbed me greatly. In my opinion, this is a very well done YA fantasy novel. I see why it is one of the most popular YA fantasy novels.

I read this book before it even came out (I got an ARC) and I immediately fell in love with it. The characters, the setting, the attention to detail, everything about it is spot on. Every single chapter is brimming with interesting concepts and characterization. The attention Bardugo has taken to each character's backstory is incredible and the depth of the Grisha world is unbelievable. This made my top five books of all time list without even trying!
