"Never go into the forest, for there are many dangers there, and they will ensnare your soul."

Serafina has never had a reason to disobey her pa and venture beyond the grounds of Biltmore Estate. There's plenty to explore in Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt's vast and opulent home, but she must take care to never be seen. None of the rich folk upstairs know that Serafina exists; she and her pa have lived in the basement for as long as Serafina can remember. She has learned to prowl through the darkened corridors at night, to sneak and hide, using the mansion's hidden doors and secret passageways.

But when children at the estate start disappearing, only Serafina knows the clues to follow. A mysterious man in a black cloak stalks Biltmore's corridors at night. Following her own harrowing escape, Serafina risks everything by joining forces with Braeden Vanderbilt, the young nephew of Biltmore's owners. Braeden and Serafina must uncover the Man in the Black Cloak's true identity before all of the children vanish one by one.

Serafina's hunt leads her into the very forest that she has been taught to fear, where she discovers a forgotten legacy of magic. In order to save the children of Biltmore, Serafina must not only face her darkest enemy, but delve into the strange mystery of her own identity.

This book is so interesting! If you read part of it, you'll always be anxious to know what happens next. The idea for this book is mysterious. When you finish this book, you will be sad that there isn't more.

This book is the best book ever I wonder why his face looks like wonder what happened to his face. I recommend this book read it

I could not put this book down! I loved the suspense as Serafina learned more about not only the black cloak, but herself. I can't wait to read the next book!

I read this book a few months ago for the first time and loved it! It is such a intricate book based around a beautiful place. Robert Beatty describes Serifina in such a way that it is impossible not to get swept up into the tale!

Serafina lives with her papa in the basement of Biltmore Estate. Sersfina is special in her own ways. For instance, Serafina only has eight toes instead of ten. And she has golden yellow eyes. This book was good, and if you have time, you probably want to read it, but I would not go out of my way to read it.

An intriguing story of a girl who lives in a mansion with her father without being known. She befriends the mansion owner's nephew to find out what is happening to the disappearing children.

I really loved the suspence and the time period. I also like the theme of secrecy.

It's amazing!!!
