Timothy is on probation. It's a strange word—something that happens to other kids, to delinquents, not to kids like him. And yet, he is under house arrest for the next year. He must check in weekly with a probation officer and a therapist, and keep a journal for an entire year. And mostly, he has to stay out of trouble. But when he must take drastic measures to help his struggling family, staying out of trouble proves more difficult than Timothy ever thought it would be. By turns touching and funny, and always original, House Arrest is a middlegrade novel in verse about one boy's path to redemption as he navigates life with a sick brother, a grieving mother, and one tough probation officer.

This book was touching. I loved every bit of it. It is about a 12 year old boy named Timothy who is under house arrest. From his point of view, we learn that what we are reading is his journal, given to him by the judge to write in. As we read Timothy's journal, we learn the hardships his family is going through, such as his brother, Levi, having a messed up trachea (a large membranous tube reinforced by rings of cartilage, extending from the larynx to the bronchial tubes and conveying air to and from the lungs; the windpipe). Through awful nurses, divorce problems, and controlling himself, we join Timothy on the wild ride of trying to help Levi while under house arrest. This book had parts where I started to tear up, and yet there were still parts that made me smile. I highly recommend House Arrest.

This book was... interesting. I do like it, but it was not my favorite because I could not relate to it personally, and I like that type of story better. It is so sad, though, I feel bad and am praying for families that this happens to!! I think that everyone could try reading this, and you either would really like it, or even if you didn't really get into it you might learn something very important!!

This book is incredible and handles a difficult and sad topic really well. I also love how this book doesn't sugarcoat things so children can understand the hardship of life, and that some things just can't be explained. I totally love this book and I would read this more than once.
