“Fresh and funny.” ―New York Times Book Review

Newbery Honor author Shannon Hale and New York Times bestselling illustrator LeUyen Pham join forces in this graphic memoir about how hard it is to find your real friends―and why it's worth the journey.

When best friends are not forever . . .

Shannon and Adrienne have been best friends ever since they were little. But one day, Adrienne starts hanging out with Jen, the most popular girl in class and the leader of a circle of friends called The Group. Everyone in The Group wants to be Jen's #1, and some girls would do anything to stay on top . . . even if it means bullying others.

Now every day is like a roller coaster for Shannon. Will she and Adrienne stay friends? Can she stand up for herself? And is she in The Group―or out?

Title: Real Friends Author: Shannon Hale Genre: Auto Biography I give this a 5/5 because it's a great novel that includes funny, funny, interesting chapters and it relates to real life! A very interesting part to me is how Jenny and Shannon basically have the same life yet Jenny hates her. I recommend this book for all ages because it shows perspectives of life from other people! If you love Auto Biography's this is the book for you.

This book is so good you should read it. This book is about a girl named Shannon, her story starts in kindergarten, that's where she meets Adrienne and they become best friend! But then in the third grade Shannon meets Jen, Jen is Adrienne friend from church. Jen is the most popular girl in the third grade, as Adrienne makes more friends Shannon gets more and more jealous..... Also if you love fun and exciting books that are graphic novels this book is for you!

An autobiographical graphic novel about the author, Shannon. Shannon's story begins in kindergarten, where she meets a little girl named Adrienne. They become best friends and go on fun adventures together. Shannon and Adrienne enter third grade (one chapter later) and Shannon meets Jen, a girl Adrienne's friends with from church. Jen is the most popular girl in the third grade, and she is the leader of the in-crowd called The Group. (Who named it, anyway?) Adrienne is automatically admitted in the Group, but not Shannon. Her appearance and life makes it hard for her to fit in with everything. Not to mention, but Jen's best friend is a bully named Jenny, intent on making Shannon's life miserable. Read this book and learn about the author's childhood story. Don't miss the following books, Best Friends (2019) and Friends Forever (2021)

it was ok but kinda painful to me cuz i relate too this book a lot

Amazing book! It's about a girl named Shannon, and she goes through friend trouble, including excluding, bullying, being cool, and others. I would recommend 9 and up, because there are some parts that are for older kids. It's great that it's a graphic novel, and it's better to read that way. Totally amazing book!

I love this book it is good. I want there to be book 2 sooooooo bad

Awesome book, graphic novel, funny and its worth it. The second book is best friends, also really good!📖

It is pretty good

Shannon Hale tells us the story of her childhood highsm and childhood lows. Mostly lows. As the middle child in a family of 7, she feels like she is always left out, or forgotten. Cast out. She always gets hand-me-downs. She gets bullied at school by a girl named Jenny, who is afraid that Jen, the leader of the elite group in schools filled with the most popular girls called The Group. Shannon struggles with Jenny at school, but faces something much worse at home. Her mean older sister at home, Wendy. Wendy also gets bullied, and she picks on Shannon to make herself feel better. But Shannon is also afraid that she'll lose her BFF, Adrienne. Another issue for Shannon? OCD. Will Shannon find a group of friends who actually appreciate her? Will she stand up for herself against Wendy and Jenny? Can she keep her true friends close? Keep reading to find out!
