When life takes a new direction, it's comforting to know that some things will not change. A brilliant and touching story about navigating big family shifts, from the masterful Newbery Medal winning author of When You Reach Me.

When Bea's parents got divorced, they told her about two big changes: Dad is gay. Mom and Dad will have different apartments, each with a room for Bea. They also gave her a special notebook to record the list of things that will not change. The first and most important: Mom and Dad will always love Bea, and each other. They are still a family, just different. Bea's days are split between her parents; school remains the same. She still goes to Dad's family's lake house every summer. Only now, no one mentions Mom.

Then, Dad announces that he and his boyfriend Jesse are getting married. Bea is thrilled. She loves Jesse--and he has a daughter her age, Sonia. Bea has never met her, but she's sure that she and Sonia will be the perfect sisters. Behind her joy, though, something she did last summer is haunting Bea.

This warm story is a testament to a modern family, and to the kind of love that doesn't ask you to be anyone but who you are.

Haven't read it yet but I wanna please tell me about it I wanna know how it ends please

It's a beautiful story. Rebecca Stead is a great author. She can take a story off the streets and twist it, change it, make it abstract and intriguing. This book tells the story of a young girl whose parents are divorced, because her dad is gay. She doesn't really understand that some people just don't believe in being gay. She loves Jesse, her dad's fiance, and she knows Jesse and her dad love each other. But what she doesn't know is herself. Something that she did in the past has been bothering her, and she doesn't know what kind of person she is and what to do about it. I recommend this books for everyone :) ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

This author is so good but this book was so bad 😕😕😕😕😕😕👎👎👎👎

Umm I think that you should not judge people on how they writ their life's story please I dont like negativity towards others I love how people speak positively to others and speak positively to yourself as well my friend

This book all children should read

So Bea's parents are divorced. Bea's parents gave her a notebook for her to write things that will never change. "Mom will always love you" "Dad will always love you". But now Bea's dad is getting married to Jesse, who she loves. He's nice and a perfect fit for her dad. Jesse also has a daughter, Sonia. Bea is sure Sonia is going to love it here and can't wait for a sister. Still, she did something last summer that is haunting her. this is a great book for anyone. "We're still a family, just in a different way"- Bea's notebook.
