This was a distinctly terrible point of oppression in U.S. history, and sadly racial intolerance is something that's still pretty rampant here. While we've progressed a lot I feel like many people still follow ideas that other ethnicities, religions, etc. are inferior and that the problem is something that must be dealt with. From racial profiling in police departments to the very recent backlash over the internet attacking Coca Cola for having a commercial in which multiple different ethnicities were singing "America the Beautiful" in different languages. While America has come far, this kind of thinking is why these events in history really are not something we can forget.
