Have you ever tried to find a stolen trophy while trying to win a place on one? Twins Aiden and Ava and their friend Daniel all love to play soccer and they also love mysteries and adventures. As they all compete for the top spot in their soccer leagues to win the coveted spot on the trophy in the library, the friends also try to solve an old town mystery in which the original soccer trophy was stolen from the library 40 years ago. The friends wonder if it's even worth digging up this old mystery, but are intrigued to find out why anyone would want to steal a kids soccer trophy! Tensions rise with the case as they talk to old coaches and town figures who seem suspiciously unhappy with the kids looking for the trophy. Pressure also intensifies on the soccer field as the game that will decide who is at the top of the league is coming up! With an unexpected twist at the end of the story, the friends will have to go above and beyond on the field and with the mystery to uncover the truth of the missing soccer trophy. I really enjoyed reading this book because as a soccer player myself, the action-packed soccer game scenes in the book were super entertaining and I could picture it just as if I was playing soccer with them! I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys soccer and a good mystery!

kgbradshaw's book review was featured in These Violent Delights.
Lets get one thing straight: I did not expect this to be a fantasy books. Sure, it is set in a real place, at a real time, with somewhat real characters. What I did not bet on was there being a dragon monster in the river...and I won't continue because of spoilers. All in all, I really liked the premise. The gangs ruling Shanghai were believable and ruthless, and their ever going war was interesting to read about. The romance is an enemies to friends to lovers to enemies to accomplices to lovers to enemies, so if you want an emotional rollercoaster, here ya go. The actual plot was something unlike anything had seen before, and I was hooked on every word. My one warning: if you do not like bugs or blood, please don't read this book.

Featuring amazing heists, lovable characters, great friendships, and lots of waffles, Six of Crows is by far one of my favorite books of all time. The plot and world felt almost tangible, and after reading, I found myself longing to travel to Ketterdam. This extraordinary book has female characters that seemed real and believable, and they were people who I could root for in the story. Many fantasy novels tire out the "damsel in distress" trope, as they do the "overprotective boy who will kill you if you tough his girl" cliche, but this book does neither. Inej and Nina are powerful protagonists, as are Wylan, Jesper, Kaz, and Matthias. If you like heists, LGBTQ+ representation, hilarious friendly banter, and the occasional waffle, you will love Six of Crows.
