Hatchet is a story by Gary Paulsen about a boy named Brian Robeson trying to survive in the wilderness. All Brian has is a hatchet that his mother gave him. Gary Paulsen uses a variety of figurative language to tell the story of Brian’s struggles. My favorite parts of the book are when it talks about Brian’s thoughts. This allows the reader to see Brian’s problem solving skills. A lot of Brian’s problems have to do with finding or catching the food. I think highly of Brian because he solves problems in creative ways that I would never think of. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars because the final chapter was only 7 pages long and so much happened in that chapter that it felt so rushed. The rest of the book was better paced and well written.
