I really enjoy the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. They're all very amusing, and the humor in them always manages to get a laugh at me. The sample has me hooked already, and I have high expectations that I'm sure will not be disappointed.Almost 7 years agocandyexpressliked a comment in Summer Reading 2017.

Dork Diaries are those books that never seem to get old, no matter how many years have passed since you first started the series and got obsessed. It's been years since I've read the first one, and my reading style and level has definitely changed over that period of time, but the stunning illustrations and plots never disappoint. This book was a quick read, but in the time I spent reading it, I enjoyed every second of it. The book takes some unexpected twists, and I find myself following Niki, the main character, around, experiencing and feeling everthing she is going through. The author captures the struggles of teens beautifully, making it completely relatable. Each event gets me hungry for more.Almost 7 years agocandyexpress added a book review.
Rereading books is something I seldom do. Once I read a story, reliving the events and enjoying it just isn't as easy as the first time. On the other hand, The Lightning Thief was a book that required multiple rereads to fully comprehend how amazing and thrilling it was. The way Rick Riordan narrates his book is its own art. It's like having a conversation with this relatable teen through the pages of these books. I can't recall reading a book that follows the topic of Greek gods, but this one will definitely stick in my mind forever. The adventures and challenges Percy faces finding out he is a demigod, child of a mortal and god, are amazingly thrilling and exciting. You find a lot of people raving about the book, and there's a perfect reason for it. This book definitely taught me a lot about mythology and gave me the full experience of reading an entertaining and amusing book.Almost 7 years agocandyexpressliked a comment in Summer Reading 2017.

I found Adrift after a desperate search of my library for a book that might heal a bit of the heartbreak from the ending of the Throne of Glass series., and since it was short and had a decent-looking storyline, I grabbed it and started reading. You can't go wrong with a book about five teens stranded at sea with no hope of survival, right? WRONG. Don't get me wrong, I like a fast-paced book, but Adrift was had a blink-and-you'll-miss-it plot. It felt like the author just tossed the story upon you without a second thought for character development. It definitely would have done better as a longer novel. But I have to give Mr. Griffin credit; the story is what it claims to be and nothing less. It was realistic in gristly details and had an ending that just sums up how life goes: The main characters don't always get the girl, not everyone lives, and it's not always just forgive-and-forget. I found Adrift in the teen section, but anyone could read it. It's only 228 pages, so I didn't lose much, but this book didn't leave me feeling like I'd gained anything, either.Almost 7 years ago
