In this compelling and thought-provoking fantasy set in the world of The Two Princesses of Bamarre, Newbery Honor-winning author Gail Carson Levine introduces a spirited heroine who must overcome deeply rooted prejudice—including her own—to heal her broken country.

Peregrine strives to live up to the ideal of her people, the Latki—and to impress her parents: affectionate Lord Tove, who despises only the Bamarre, and stern Lady Klausine. Perry runs the fastest, speaks her mind, and doesn’t give much thought to the castle’s Bamarre servants, whom she knows to be weak and cowardly.

But just as she’s about to join her father on the front lines, she is visited by the fairy Halina, who reveals that Perry isn’t Latki-born. She is Bamarre. The fairy issues a daunting challenge: against the Lakti power, Perry must free her people from tyranny.

Perri is a fast latki, or so she thinks. Her father hates Bamarre. One day Perrigrine is about to fight with her father at the front lines when a mysterious fairy reveals that Perri is actually Bamarre. Peregrine has to decide who she is.

This book has a really cool fairy tale twist when Peregrine's hair starts uncontrollably growing at a very fast rate. I had a very hard time trying to decide if I liked her fake mother. I feel like in the end I did like her. The story line was REALlY good. If you like romance, and/or fantasy/fairy tales, any of Gail Carson Levine's books would be good.

This book is about the true meaning of family. Peregrine, a teenage Latki, runs faster than anyone in New Latki, speaks her mind, and strives to impress her parents: sweet Lord Tove, and stern Lady Klausine (called Lady Mother by Peregrine). Peregrine (I'll call her Perry for short) is visited by the fairy Halina before going to battle with her father. Halina tells Perry she is a Bammare, the only group of people her father despises. Perry is led on a wonderous adventure- to not only find herself, but her true family.
