“A winning tale of love.” Kirkus (starred review)

Perfect for fans of Charlotte’s Web and The One and Only Ivan, Saving Winslow is an uplifting modern classic in the making about a young boy who befriends an ailing newborn donkey and nurses him back to health, from New York Times bestseller and Newbery Medal winner Sharon Creech.

Louie doesn't have the best luck when it comes to nurturing small creatures. So when his father brings home a sickly newborn mini donkey, he's determined to save him. He names him Winslow. Taking care of him helps Louie feel closer to his brother, Gus, who is far, far away in the army.

Everyone worries that Winslow won't survive, especially Louie’s quirky new friend, Nora, who has experienced loss of her own. But as Louie's bond with Winslow grows, surprising and life-altering events prove that this fragile donkey is stronger than anyone could have imagined.

Written in the spirit of Creech favorites Moo and Love That Dog, this standout tale about love and friendship and letting go will tug at the heartstrings.

“This heartwarming story is sure to be a hit with fans of E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web and Kate DiCamillo’s Because of Winn-Dixie.” School Library Journal (starred review)

“Creech packs a tremendous amount of emotion between the lines of her understated prose. Animal lovers in particular will relish Louie’s hard-won triumphs and find joy in Winslow’s strength.” Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Woven into this narrative is a convincing portrayal of human growth and blossoming—the story is told simply but subtly, celebrating the unexpected strength of the vulnerable.” Horn Book (starred review)

Saving Winslow by Shanon Creech was written in 2018.This was an awesome book and exciting new fun friendships with lots of people. This book was hard to put down and worth reading. One day Louie’s father brought home a donkey rapted in a blue blanket.Louie named it Winslow and finds out Winslow might die.Louie is convinced he will save Winslow .Louie works hard every day feeding Winslow . One day he meets a girl named Nora.Nora likes Winslow and becomes good friends with Louie. They all hang out a lot.One day they found out that Winslow is not sick anymore. They were so happy. My favorite part of the book is that it is about a donkey and a boy named Louie is taking care of the donkey.Louie always gets pets but they never make it.This time he takes good care of his pet,Winslow . they become good friends and find another good friend named Nora. The story made me feel sad because Winslow was going to die.Louie and Winslow become good friends and made another good friend named Nora.Nora treats Winslow kindly and that makes me happy.they all become good friends. They always spend time together. The new friendship made this book Saving Winslow a good book to read.I recommend this book to people that like animals. I hope you enjoy the book.

Saving Winslow is a cute book about how a sickly little newborn donkey transforms into a thriving, happy LGD (Livestock Guard Donkey). Winslow and the rest of the cast (Louie, Mack, Nora, etc.) are all very believable, and this book is very to-the-point yet not too curt. It will leave you rooting for innocent, sweet Winslow, through all of his hardships and troubles. <SPOILER ALERT> he even saves the life of Louie's next-door neighbors by braying when he smells smoke coming from their house. This book is kind of short for what it is, but I would definitely recommend it to anybody who wants a rich chapter book that won't take you weeks to finish.

This was a cute book about young Louie caring for the sick and weak newborn donkey that his father brought home. Louie wants the frail animal to survive, so he makes him a bed and feeds him from a bottle. Louie names the donkey Winslow, and the donkey eventually survives and even saves two people’s lives later in the book. (I won’t tell how and spoil it). I recommend!
