Have you ever heard of a mongoose fighting a cobra? The story Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling is a fiction set in a bungalow and garden in India. In the story, Rikki Tikki must fight the cobras to protect the people. One of the most interesting characters in the story is Darzee, the tailor-bird. He is scared of the cobras, and at one part of the story, “Darzee and his wife only cowered down in the nest without answering.” Another interesting part of the story is when Nag is dead, and Darzee is singing triumphally about how Nag is gone, and Rikki Tikki says, “Oh, you stupid tuft of feathers!” said Rikki-Tikki angrily. “Is this the time to sing?”” Also, the tone of the story is suspenseful, especially when Rikki Tikki is fighting the cobras. One example is this, “The head was lying a little clear of the water-jar, under the curve of it; and, as his teeth met, Rikki braced his back against the bulge of the red earthenware to hold down the head. This gave him just one second’s purchase, and he made the most of it. Then he was battered to and fro as a rat is shaken by a dog.” Moreover, courage and loyalty are the themes for the story Rikki Tikki Tavi. Courage and loyalty are the themes because Rikki Tikki must have the courage to face the cobras, and he is loyally protecting the people from the cobras. Overall, I would recommend Rikki Tikki Tavi to anyone who likes animals, adventure, or fiction stories. Rikki Tikki Tavi is a great book that will hold you at the edge of your seat.
