Something?s rotten in the heart of apple country!

Hildy Biddle dreams of being a journalist. A reporter for her high school newspaper, The Core, she?s just waiting for a chance to prove herself. Not content to just cover school issues, Hildy?s drawn to the town?s big story?the haunted old Ludlow house. On the surface, Banesville, USA, seems like such a happy place, but lately, eerie happenings and ghostly sightings are making Hildy take a deeper look.

Her efforts to find out who is really haunting Banesville isn?t making her popular, and she starts wondering if she?s cut out to be a journalist after all. But she refuses to give up, because, hopefully, the truth will set a few ghosts free.

Peeled is classic Joan Bauer, featuring a strong heroine, and filled with her trademark witty dialogue, and problems and people worth standing up to.

Good book. The plot is excellent and it is very mysterious. I love how Joan Bauer writes. She makes the story very personal about the characters. You can really see through their eyes.

I love all of Joan Bauer's books. If you like realistic fiction, you will enjoy these books! It is such a sweet novel with a little mystery.

A spooky thriller, Peeled is a great book to read on an October weekend, leading up to Halloween! Hildy Biddle's looking for a story to write in her high school newspaper. She's stumped until a haunted house in the neighborhood starts to create some racket. She does all she can to write an amazing story, which then leads into some clashing with other newspapers in the town, which then leads to blackmail. But finally, the high school newspaper finds their way, with a surprise twist at the end! Joan did a great job with this book. One of my favorite parts was that she took Banesville, NY, the place that the story is in, and though it is fictional, she really makes it seem real, by adding in details like that it was in apple country, which is widespread throughout NY. She really gives attention to each individual character, and lets each of them grow. Overall, a quick read but a good read!
