Thor's hammer is missing again. The thunder god has a disturbing habit of misplacing his weapon--the mightiest force in the Nine Worlds. But this time the hammer isn't just lost, it has fallen into enemy hands. If Magnus Chase and his friends can't retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' worst enemy, Loki--and the price he wants is very high.

Magnus Chase is an einherjar, which means that he's been killed in battle and is now one of the Norse god Odin's warriors. Not only that, he's the son of the god Frey, the god of fertility and healing. Last time, he retrieved Sumarbrander, the sword of summer, also known as Jack, and barely managed to stop Ragnarok. This time, Magnus must locate another weapon, Mjolner, Thor's extremely powerful hammer. If the giants find out, they will attack Midgard, the world humans inhabit. Magnus will have to find the hammer before they do. Magnus and his friends soon discover that a giant named Thrym has Mjolner. What's more, Thrym is planning on marrying Magnus's friend Samira! If she marries him, Thrym will give the hammer back. At least that's what he says. Loki, the god of trickery and also Samira's father, urges them to collect the bride price, the Skofnung Sword, and the Skofnung Stone. But Magnus suspects that Loki has a plan that he's not telling them. What is it? Will Magnus and his friend ever get Mjolner back? I liked this book because it's really funny.

The entire series is amazing. As someone who is trans i can see myself through Alex's eyes even though im FTM (female to male) and she is gender fluid, although i feel like the word argr is kinda a replacement for the T word lol. The book is really good though and i definitely recommend it

Magnus Chase's talk with the secret informant Samirah (Sam) told him about did not last long. In the time they had to talk, he was informed that Thor's hammer (in secret term, ham) is missing again. A new einherjar named Alex Fierro has been recruited by valkyrie Sam. They are both the children of Loki. In this book, it explains that Sam does not transform very often into animals because it would be easier for Loki to control her. Sam wonders how Alex can do it all the time. I love how this series is based on Norse mythology. I also love the connection of Magnus's family to Annabeth's, and how their worlds connect. Overall, I was very interested in this book and it made me want to read the next one. I recommend this book to people who enjoy the Percy Jackson series. I rate this book 5/5.
