Now, there’s a pathetic family portrait you don’t want to be a part of, believe me. More on the unfortunate Village Police incident later. I need to work myself up to tell you that disaster story. So anyway, ta-da, here it is, book fans, and all of you in need of AR points at school, the true autobio of my life so far. The dreaded middle school years. If you’ve ever been a middle schooler, you understand already. If you’re not in middle school yet, you’ll understand soon enough. But let’s face it: Understanding me—I mean, really understanding me and my nutty life—isn’t so easy. That’s why it’s so hard for me to find people I can trust. The truth is, I don’t know who I can trust. So mostly I don’t trust anybody. Except my mom, Jules. (Most of the time, anyway.) So… let’s see if I can trust you." This book is about a young boy named Rafe going to middle school. He decides to break all the rules in the rulebook though- a little something called Operation R.A.F.E. This is a great book. Comedy, good illustrations, good and realistic plot line, (coughsDiaryOfAWimpyKid) and great characters. I can understand Rafe doodling everywhere (as I do it as well) and the mural was simply beautiful and amazing. Only downside? The chapters are too short. (some are one page long!) Good book, I give it 4/5.

"The Preacher throwed his knife into the ground where the tracks use to be and put his hand on the fancy holster and mystery pistol he always totes. "Boys," he whispered, "I need you to solemnly promise me something. I want you both to swear on your mothers' lives that if I'm ever bitten by one of these beasts, you'll take this pistol and put a bullet in my brain! I'd rather be shot dead than face such a horrible, prolonged death! Raise your hands, I need each of you to promise that you'll blow my head right off my shoulders!" I near jumped to the moon when a loud bang came from behind me! I looked back and Cooter'd already run into his house and slammed and locked the door. He waren't 'bout to promise nothing!" My teacher made me read Elijah for a project we had. I absolutely despised it. I get that it's from his point of view, but I wish he didn't talk laik dis. He was obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. And, the real problem, the one advertised in the back of the book, doesn't being until the last 8 chapters. The first part of the book is Elijah's boring life. Once you get to the main problem, though, (which is in the end) the book does get a bit better. Still, I hated reading it and almost started dancing when I finished the book. I would give it a 1/5 but I decided to be a bit nicer, since some parts are good, and give it a 2/5.

"I exploded. "No! No sir!" I yanked off my Coke-bottle glasses and shook them at him in rage. "There are questions that need to be answered about these! Am I such a stupid idiot fool that I stared at a solar eclipse for an hour and blinded myself?"" Tangerine is a story about a boy named Paul moving to Tangerine County. Paul is almost blind, he can only see due to his glasses. He dislikes his middle school yet loves playing soccer. He joins the middle school soccer team while his brother's a football player. Speaking about his brother, for some reason unknown Paul and his brother Erik hate each other, like "Look at me and I'll kill you," hate. It's unnecessary and the only reason it's there was to make Paul blind. Paul makes tons of dumb and brave decisions too, and I end up not liking him. The plot kept dragging on too, with unnecessary side plots everywhere. I get that the author wants to make a long book, but that's not how you make it better. There are some disturbing parts for younger kids (3rd grade) but overall is pretty kid-friendly. I give it a 3/5.

"Jack glared at him. "I'm not just going to kiss her." "If you don't, I will," the old man said. "You think she wants to wake up to this?"" Half Upon a Time is about a young boy named Jack living in a small town. His grandfather wants him to go rescue a princess like normal kids. Jack hates royalty and says he'll never do it, at least until a princess from the land of Punk falls from the sky. This book is filled with great developed characters, an intriguing plot line, and tons of humor. I love sarcastic and clever characters like Jack and May, so I fell in love with this books almost right away. The beginning is quite boring but I promise you that once you get past that part you'll find that it's worth it.
