Gracie is an eighth grade girl who is a bundle of joy to her family. She appears to be happy-go-lucky, and is best friends with her classmate. In the book, she develops a crush on her friend A.J., who in turn has a crush on Sienna. Gracie writes texts for Sienna to A.J., and A.J.'s responses sound like they came from their witty friend and Gracie's neighbor Emmet. Gracie also feels the pressures of mean girl Riley, the death of her sister Brooke years before she was born, and helps chatterbox Dorin by becoming friends with her. With tortoises, field trips and operas, this book was very interesting and was a good modernization of Cyrano de Bergerac.

This book was strange but interesting. Six friends are Prince Warriors, traveling to a different dimension and following the guidance of a hooded figure to fight against evil. In this book, the warriors are givens "shields", red seeds that seem useless, and one of them is possessed by a robotic silver bug, that is setting up the invasion of robotic ants knowns as Ents.
