Twelve-year-old Mysti Murphy wishes she were a character in a book. If her life were fictional, she'd magically know how to deal with the fact that her best friend, Anibal Gomez, has abandoned her in favor of being a "hipster." She'd be able to take care of everyone when her dad has to spend time in the hospital. And she'd certainly be able to change her family's secret.

Seventh grade is not turning out the way Mysti had planned. With the help of a hot-hair balloon, her new friend Rama Khan--and maybe even the heroes of the Texas Revolution--can she find the courage to change?

I understand Mysti's wish to be fictional because if you are fictional, people solve your problems for you in the right way.

Mysti's mother has agoraphobia, a fear of open spaces. Because of that, her mother doesn't leave the house. It's up to her father to take care of the family. But when he gets a neck injury, it's her job now. Between emergency food, her ex-best friend, her new friends, Texas history, and going to the super market alone Mysti learns what it means to be courageous.

I actually didn't want this book but my sister made me read it. After I read it, I found out it was wonderful book about finding courage. It will help YOU find courage.

I didn't want to read it at first either!
