There was a cat
who lived alone.
Until the day
a new cat came . . .

And so a story of friendship begins, following two cats through their days, months, and years until one day, the older cat has to go. And he doesn’t come back.

Big Cat, Little Cat is a poignant story, told in measured text and bold black-and-white illustrations about life and the act of moving on, from award-winning author Elisha Cooper.

Elisha Cooper may have little words in her stories, but each word speaks meaningfully and has a meaning equivalent to a hundred words. Basically, this is a true tale of friendship good enough to move on for generations. In this book, a lonely, big cat who lives alone gats a new cat. Together, they play and eat and sleep, and give each other company. But friendships may not last forever, and the big cat leaves the little cat. The little cat, now a bigger cat, gets a new cat member, and it is up to the bigger cat to pass their friendship down.

I loved this book! This book won caldecott honor award. The pictures are simple but very well done. The book is kind of like a circle. The words are meaningful and the book is beautiful. It is about a big cat and a little cat. The big cat is all alone until the little cat comes and the big cat needs to show the little cat what to do. Until the Big Cat dies. And they get a new cat. Read the book to view this beautiful sight!
