The fact that New Yorkers take their pizza seriously is well-known. Pizzeria owners are always striving to create the sauciest, cheesiest, and crunchiest pies to delight their customers. Now, Industry Kitchen, a South Street Seaport restaurant, has upped the ante with “the fance’za” — a pizza so decadent, it will set back the consumer $2,000 USD.

So what can one expect for this astronomical price? A pie made from a special dough that is infused with squid ink and topped with some of the world’s finest and most expensive delicacies. These include foie gras and truffles from France, Ossetra caviar harvested from the Caspian Sea, and stilton cheese imported from England. However, what makes the pie unique is the generous sprinkling of edible 24K gold strips and flakes added on before it is baked to perfection in the restaurant’s wood-fired oven. The result, according to the restaurant’s executive chef and creator Braulio Bunay, is a pizza that is “the epitome of decadence.”

There is no word about how many of “the fance’za” pies, which have to be ordered 48 hours in advance, have been sold since the pizza was introduced late last year. But if we were to guess, it is probably in the low, single digits!
