We have all become so reliant on YouTube for things ranging from tutorials to cooking tips and of course, entertainment, it appears as though the video-sharing site has been around forever. But believe it or not, it was just eight years ago, on April 23rd, 2005, that the first 20-second video was uploaded on this now popular destination.

Founded by three young entrepreneurs, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, YouTube was a runaway success from the day it was launched and things have not changed since. According to Google Inc. who bought the company in October 2006, hundreds of millions of videos are viewed by people all over the world each day, and over 72 hours of recordings are uploaded every minute!

Of course, some videos are (much) more popular than others. Here are a few that have caught the fancy of the viewers, over the years.

'Charlie Bit My Finger' - With over 500 million views since it was posted on May 22nd, 2007, this video is the most popular non-music video on YouTube.

Gangnam Style - With over 1.5 billion views this of course is the most popular video ever!

The Sneezing Panda - With over 158 million views this cute video of a sneezing Panda seems to caught the fancy of many people.

And finally, the video that started it all - 'Me At The Zoo' starring YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim

Happy Birthday YouTube!
