An extraordinary debut weaving magic and heroism into a classic tale of good and evil, featuring a heroine you'll never forget.

Inquisitive twelve-year-old Alexa Daley is spending another summer in the walled town of Bridewell. This year, she is set on solving the mystery of what lies beyond the walls. Legend says the walls were built to keep out an unnamed evil that lurks in the forests and The Dark Hills. But what exactly is it that the townspeople are so afraid of?
As Alexa begins to unravel the truth, pushing beyond the protective barrier she's lived behind all her life, she discovers a strange and ancient enchantment -- and exposes a danger that could destroy everything she holds dear.

One word........Awesome!!!!

I got this book from a good friend who said that I should read it. And I will never regret it! Scary but filled with fun, new and exciting things that you could never think of!! Ages 7-12.

Normally I'm quite lazy when it comes to following a book series, but this was actually the first book series I finished! The plot is full of twists, and all of the books were great page-turners, especially The Tenth City. I really loved these books!

And now that I have a real DOGO account, I'll just mention that I also own two of the books in this series : "The Valley of Thorns" and " Into the Mist"

Fantastic book, fatastic series! There are five books, one of which is kind of a side story, and not really counted(It's the fourth book, in order, but the one after it is considered, and titled, as the fourth). However, I found that book particularly enjoyable. I definately reccomend the series to anyone who's bothered to visit this page, and basically anyone who enjoys fantasy at all. Although some of the charachters are unusual, all of them are both complex and simple in almost exactly the same way as people in real life(this includes the animals), and I feel like what I'm reading is real. From the first time I read this, I found myself merging with the main charachter so thoroughly, it's amazing. I'm sure part of that is due to the fact that all the books are written as though you were being told the story straight from the main charachter herself( though the side story is mostly told by someone else). But I'll shut up now so you can read it yourself.Enjoy!!!

I just finished it and it was AMAZING. It had so many twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat! DEFINITELY something you need to read. The characters, the story, everything, was perfect. Read it!
