Ordinarily, no one would have imagined that Jack Rankin would vandalize a desk. But this was not an ordinary school year for Jack....

When Jack Rankin learns that he is going to spend the fifth grade in the old high school -- the building where his father works as a janitor -- he dreads the start of school. Jack manages to get through the first month without the kids catching on. Then comes the disastrous day when one of his classmates loses his lunch all over the floor. John the janitor is called in to clean up, and he does the unthinkable -- he turns to Jack with a big smile and says, "Hi, son."
Jack performs an act of revenge and gets himself into a sticky situation. His punishment is to assist the janitor after school for three weeks. The work is tedious, not to mention humiliating. But there is one perk, janitors have access to keys, keys to secret places....

This was one of my favorite books by Andrew Clements. It was so sad but so exciting as Jack goes on a small journey to get revenge on his dad for being the school janitor and letting everyone know it by unknowingly embarrassing him. What will happen? Will Jack learn his dad is only trying to help him?

This book is a funny book about Jack and his father. Jack doesn't want anyone to know that John his father is the Janitor.

This book is about a kid why is the janitors son named jack who got in trouble with a gum situation about gum at school. the ending of the book was fine, but i wish a character new that jack is the janitors son. it is for boys and girls. if your a good reader start reading at 7 and up. this book has 140 pages. its grade first and second grade or in the middle at summer. something like that could happen but not usually. if i were the author i would change the ending the way i told you earlier. i recommend this book and also give it 5 big stars. enjoy reading the book!
