Boy Bites Bug

Boy Bites Bug

By Rebecca Petruck

To be honest, this wasn’t a good book. It had a lot of aspects I didn’t like, and some parts were a bit gross. To summarize the whole book, I would say it was just...hard to get into, and not my type of book. I also didn’t like the cover (really, I thought it should’ve been better for readers to pick it up and read it). I do not recommend this book, and rate it 2/5 stars.

The Lost Rainforest: Mez's Magic

The Lost Rainforest: Mez's Magic

By Eliot Schrefer

My book review is about the book The Lost Rainforest: Mez’s Magic by Eliot Schrefer. The book is about Mez, a panther born during the eclipse and found friends who were also born during the eclipse to defeat the ant queen. I liked the book because I love panthers and adventure books. I liked that the book made you happy when SPOILER ALERT characters find each other again and sad when SPOILER ALERT characters that you relate to die This book helped me learn about perseverance and pushing forward. Like when SPOILER ALERT they are in the owl fight on the river and they get flipped under the water. In that situation the main character, Mez just keeps pushing through and eventually emerges from the water. Unlike Mez, a character who doesn’t persevere is Sorrella the monkey. In the beginning of the book the side character Sorrella the monkey had no respect for anyone but herself. Sorrella thought she was very sophisticated and we can tell because in one part, Auriel the cobra was talking and Sorrella wasn’t paying attention, she was grooming herself. Gogi the monkey wanted her respect but Sorrella hated Gogi because he was only a seventeen on the rankings. After Gogi SPOILER ALERT saved the animals from the ant queen for the first time, Sorrella actually gave him some respect by giving him praise for what he did. Like when Gogi is giving a speech about how they will defeat the ant queen once and for all, Sorrella is listening and joins into the speech to help prove Gogi’s point. They were all so positive that they would win, and they were even more moved to win because SPOILER ALERT they had a dead member to fight for. I think that the chapter when SPOILER ALERT Nico the fish dies means sometimes good people have bad things happen to them. Nico was a good fish and he didn’t deserve to be SPOILER ALERT eaten by Auriel. This chapter helps show that SPOILER ALERT Auriel works for the ant queen and can hollow out animals bodies. There was no crack in the temple so the ant queen couldn’t have come out of the temple to eat it herself. I hope that if you read the book, you enjoyed it and if you haven’t, you will and you will enjoy it.

The One Safe Place

The One Safe Place

By Tania Unsworth

Devin and his grandfather have lived on their farm all of Devin's life. He has never been to the city, and his grandpa is the only person he knows. So when his grandfather dies and he is left by himself, he decides that he has to go to town and get some help for the farm. When he is there, he meets a girl named Kit. Kit helps him in the city, and they become fast friends. After a couple of days in the city, he gets an invitation to come to a place that the children of the city dream about. This place has unlimited food and water, warm clothes, and everything a child could ever want. Devin and Kit decide to go to this place. But once there, Devin realizes that what they thought was this magical place is actually a nightmare. All the children who live there go to a room and get a shot that puts them in "The Dream." When you are in The Dream, you act zombie-like for a day or two until you are back to normal again. As you are in The Dream more and more, you act more and more zombie-like until it takes over their body forever. Can Devin find a way for everybody to escape this horrible place before it is too late? I really enjoyed reading The One Safe Place. Tania Unsworth did a great job of writing this story. Whenever Devin is happy, I'm happy. Whenever he's scared, I'm scared. This book really shows the importance of friendship and teamwork, and I really enjoyed reading it. I recommend this book to boys and girls ages 11+.

Max Einstein: The Genius Experiment

Max Einstein: The Genius Experiment

By James Patterson, Chris Grabenstein

It was just great. A poor squatter genius named Max idolizes Albert Einstein. She does not know anything about herself aside from her name. She goes to College in New York, and some agents named Charl and Isabl take her to the CMI, in Jerusalem, to compete in a contest. The contestants are the eight smartest children in the world. Max is very uncomfortable, because she never had any friends her age. But she becomes deeply attached to some of the children there. They take the first exam, and Max barely answered any of them. She decided to just quote Albert Einstein. Charl and Isabl asked her why she answered nothing, and she just replied, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Isable chose to fire back, "Is that why you showed very little knowledge on this test?" Max told them that they shouldn't have the smartest kids in the world cooped up in exam rooms shading circles, they should let their creativity flow with a tour around Jerusalem. Charl and Isabl agreed, and they took a guard named Yahav with them. An incident happened when Max and her friend got separated from the group. They finally found each other, and Yahav said they just got a little lost. They started to be suspicious to Yahav now. Yahav was actually a henchman working for the Corp, the bad guys. He put a tracker on Max Einstein to know where she was. The day of the second test came, and it had a time limit of eight hours. Max finished in twenty minutes, by just answering the last two questions. Charl and Isabl again questioned her on why she only answered the last two questions. She said that the last two questions were like a shorter version of the rest of the questions. When the day of the judging came, Max won, naturally. She would have to go on the field and work with a bunch of grown ups. She requested that she'll be able to work with the kids she had grown so close to. They picked a project and began working on it. What happened next? Well, that's for you to find out.
