Each Little Bird That Sings (Golden Kite Honors)

Each Little Bird That Sings (Golden Kite Honors)

By Deborah Wiles

"Each Little Bird That Sings" is a touching, bittersweet book that quickly worked its way onto my "Favorite Books" list. It's a fantastically-written tale of the friendship, companionship, death, and sadness that are a big part of some of our lives. This book has just the right amount of sorrow and humor. I loved it so much - I would strongly recommend it!

Mary Ingalls on Her Own (Little House Sequel)

2 years prior to this story Mary has scarlet fever, she became blind. *Now* Mary is leaving her home and family to go to a school for the blind. There she meets two other girls (her roommates) who are also blind and they really make Mary feel at home. She misses her family so much especially her sister Laura but she knows that is she doesn't want to be a burden to her family she needles to learn to take care of herself. I think this was a good edition to the Little House series. Recommended for 10+ Thanks for reading -Ajg16's reviews

Crazy

Crazy

By Han Nolan

Jason hears little voices in his head. But he doesn't think he's going crazy because he knows the voices aren't real. They're just like a little tv show cast in his head, commenting on his life. But Jason's dad really IS crazy, and Jason has had a rough time taking care of him by himself after his mother died. At a school support group, he finally finds the courage to open up about everything tumbling around in his life, and it's very beneficial for him. I encourage readers who are going through hard times to try this book, as it's very easy to relate to his struggles, and a good way to find solutions to them!

Operation Redwood

Operation Redwood

By S. Terrell French

Amazing story, great information about Redwood forests packed into a fun adventure story about a few brave 11-year-olds. They shine a positive light on homeschooling families. definitely recommend; it's a long book so maybe a 5th-6th grade reading level or a parent can read aloud to 6+ year old. Great story.

Countdown

Countdown

By Deborah Wiles

In this book, Countdown, Franny is living through a scary time in our country’s history; The Cuban Missile Crisis. My favorite part of this book was the nuclear air attack drill. I liked it because it was suspenseful and I was on the edge of my seat! This is a realistic fiction chapter book. The main character is Franny. She is 11 years old and lives with her mom, dad, sister and brother. Her dad is a pilot in the military. Franny is a normal 11 year old girl. She likes to read Nancy Drew books, pick out fancy headbands, and complain about her bossy sister and how hard her life can be. I really enjoyed this book because it takes place during a time of history that really interests me. I did a research project on John F. Kennedy. He was President during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I first learned about this scary time in U.S. history while working on my J.F.K. project. Countdown was a great book. You should read this book, especially if you enjoy history

Of Giants and Ice (The Ever Afters)

Of Giants and Ice (The Ever Afters)

By Shelby Bach

I just read this book for the second time and it was even sweeter than the first time (mostly because I actually understood everything for the first time in forever). I don't usually read books twice but this book was special because it was one of my absolute top favorite book series PLUS this summer I'm planning on re-reading my favorite book series. AHEM and I also got the fourth book of this series BUT I read one page and I had forgotten who and what all the characters were so I'm just re-starting from the beginning. I don't regret my decision one bit, because the second I opened this book, Rory's life became as real as my own. She's such a relatable character who is very unlike some of the perfect characters in stories these days. You can actually connect with her and feel her embarrassment, anger, happiness, and you just have to laugh out loud when she snaps a witty comment back at Chase. I WOULD make a critique about how she believed in magic so seemingly quickly, but, hey, I guess being chased by a fire-breathing dragon, escaping giants with bug-spray, and almost dying by falling from a magic beanstalk will do that to ya. I will never understand why this isn't a New York Times bestseller, and I recommend this to ANYONE who loves adventure, fantasy, and all those other genres and such. Better end this review now before it turns into one of those monster reviews so long that nobody actually reads anything but the first sentence. Anyways, this book was amazing in every way and you should probably read it if you want a cool story in your life.
