Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Boys' & Girls' Library)

Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Boys' & Girls' Library)

By Mark Twain

Ok, so I have read more of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. So it gets more exciting when you go into later chapters.Im going to start by telling you about the part where at school,he's crushing on Becky Thatcher and his mission is to get her attention. They end up meeting and getting "engaged"But then Tom tells her that he was engaged to this other girl,Amy Lawrence first. They get all mad at each other and all that. Then a couple chapters later,he decides that his Aunt Polly doesn't love him anymore and Joe decides the same thing since his mother whipped him earlier thinking he stole the cream when she had actually thrown it out herself. They decide to become pirates and they also invite "Huck" or Huckleberry Finn to come with them.At first the boys think this is great fun to pretend to be pirates when they catch their own food and make camp without their parent(s).But then on Saturday they see a ferry sort of boat coming with a party of people searching for them and they feel really homesick. Then when the night comes Tom gets so homesick that he sneakes back to his Aunt Polly's house when the boys fall asleep. He then waits till she's asleep and kisses her goodnight. The next morning the boys want to go back home because they don't like being pirates anymoreWhen he sees they aren't kidding he calls for them and tells them his secret. They then get caught in a terrible storm and then go on a log to the church and hide in an unused gallery to attend their own funeral. They then show themselves and everyone is relived and happy to see them especially Aunt Polly.

The House on Mango Street

The House on Mango Street

By Sandra Cisneros

In life sometimes it is hard to speak up when you are sad or mad.In the story “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros a girl named Rachel who’s birthday is today and she is turning eleven. At school she has a problem with her teacher ( Mrs.Price) ;She found a ugly sweater, and asks who’s it is. Everybody says “ Not Mine!” And then Rachel is accused that the sweater is hers. “Eleven” teaches me that sometimes it is hard to let go of things that made you mad. This is very hard for Mrs.Price,Saliva, and most of all Rachel. My first reason is hard for Mrs.Price because she does not accept that it is not Rachel’s witch makes her mad. In the text it says ‘ ‘’Rachel, No more nonsense But it’s not-now!!”. The text also says “ But the worst part is right before the bell rings for lunch. That stupid Phyliss Lopez, who is even dumber than Syliva Saldivar, says she remembers the sweater is hers. I take the sweater off right away and give it to her, only Mrs.Price pretends everything is okay.”This shows that Mrs.Price could be a little more kind. My second reason is that Sylvia needs to worry about herself because she blames that the sweater is Rachels. In the text it says “ Maybe I’m to skinny, maybe she dos not like me that stupid Sylvia Saldivar says “I think it belongs to Rachel”.The text also says “That she makes Rachel feel bad’’. This shows that Sylvia should worry about herself. My last reason is that Rachel needs to calm down when she is mad/sad because when she is sad she starts to overreact a little. In the text it says “Not mine,Not mine but Mrs.Price is already turning to page 32,and math problem number 4”.The text also says”But when the sick feeling and I open my eyes, the red sweater is still sitting on the corner of my desk like a big mountain’’. This shows that Rachel needs to calm down when she is sad/mad. As you can see,the characters in “Eleven” have a hard time speaking up. They go from quiet,to mumbling to talking. From now I am going to make sure if I need to talk,or if somethings not mine.Maybe sometimes it is hard for others to speak up because they are used to being quiet. This proves that Mrs.Price,Saliva, and most of all Rachel needs to take a deep breath.

Reflection: A Twisted Tale

Reflection: A Twisted Tale

By Elizabeth Lim

“When will my reflection show who I am inside.” I’ve always been a fan of Mulan. The movie is stunning. As a little girl I thought Mulan was amazing, but now I see her as an inspiration to all women. Reflection by Elizabeth Lim is a masterpiece. I loved the characters and plot twists so much. Speaking of… ***Characters*** Fa Mulan/Ping- Mulan (like I said) is an inspiration to all women out there. I liked how she made everyone believe that Ping is an actual person. Women make strong men! Respect for Mulan… Li Shang- Was a very mysterious character. I loved how he was bold and strong at first, but opened up to Mulan about his feelings and even his feelings for her. I like how he developed after his visit to the underworld (Diyu). ***Setting*** Diyu was a very nice and planned out setting. It really showed that Lim took the time and effort to plan it out. Every single thing is carefully planned and described for us readers, from the sky to the grass under Mulan’s feet. As an author-in-progress, Elizabeth Lim is an author that I look up to now. I am taking her work as an example for my writing! Look out for a ‘Dedicated to Elizabeth Lim’ novel! In all… I really liked this book. It is definitely a book to look out for! March 27, 2018! Oh! And did you see the gorgeous final cover? I am buying a second copy! Five stars from me! I received an ARC from Disney Hyperion; this has not influenced my opinion in any way.

By Jennifer Bassett

This book "The phantom of the Opera" is talking about a person that live in a big opera, many people think that he is a ghost, because they think that he is very ugly. He always wearing a mask to hide her face behind the mask, but he has a good voice, better than many people. One girl find him and started singing with him and the man is fall in love. He is dangerous and scary, many accident will maybe because of him. I think it is scary in some part of the book. This book use many sentences to make me think the scenes in my mind. My favourite character is the girl that sing with that man. I think she has a good voice and she is pretty. I think this book makes many mystery things to make the readers think more about the story. I think this book were mysterious and excited.

Glass Sword (Red Queen)

Glass Sword (Red Queen)

By Victoria Aveyard

To my disappointment, Glass Sword did not live up to my expectations at all. Its predecessor, Red Queen, was enthralling and left my vying for more, but this is not the sequel for me. First of all, most of the beginning and middle of the book consists of Mare wrangling with her emotions. She doesn't do much except for think about things like "Oh, I wonder how Cal's shaping up," and "How do I betray Maven," even though she literally does nothing half of the time. Also, as Mare and the other Reds venture through the kingdom, the book has a knack of going into long descriptions about their surroundings - which might seem essential, but it's a real drag. Most of the time, Mare is indecisive, reckless, and completely over her head. It makes me really uncomfortable even to read the story from her perspective. And the ending could rival even that of the first book, but by that time, it was too late; I was bored out of my mind. It took a lot out of me even to make it to the end, so dreadful was the writing. All in all, if you want to read about a protagonist stuck in her head most of the time, barely any humor, rather badly-developed characters (Kilorn was the worst; reading his character pained me physically), and you don't mind slow-paced writing, then go ahead and read this. But Glass Sword personally disappointed me and eradicated any prospects of reading King's Cage. Victoria, I love you, but you've plateaued!

Hug a Tree, Geronimo (Geronimo Stilton #69)

Hug a Tree, Geronimo (Geronimo Stilton #69)

By Geronimo Stilton

I read this book because I really like the Geronimo Stilton series. In this book, it is springtime, and Geronimo has to come up with a new idea of a book to write. But you can't just write a book on command, right? Geronimo was hit with a writer's block. He couldn't think. He ended up biking on the countryside, where he came across the Stilton Family Farm. H got nostalgic for all his memories there, and decided to buy it... Right before a mysterious lady in a leopard limousine could. Who was that? Anyways, he told his family & friends at the Rodent's Gazette. They loved it, and moved in with Geronimo. By winter, they were finished renovating the farm. They took 3 seasons! Ack! One day, Geronimo went for a walk, and found a tree nobody had seen in like. a 100 years! He told his family. Then, Geronimo got a text: "You took the farm from me. Now keep your paws off the tree." Or something like that. I can't tell you the rest, but here's a hint: AUCTION. And I rate this 4 out of 5 stars.
