Pink and Say
By Patricia Polacco
OH My gosh!! that was really sad. Pinkus Aylee-dark skinned and Sheldon Curtis-light skinned. Moe Moe Bay told them to hide during the civil war, and it was not too late to find out she is gone, dead, out of the world. Pink and Say get pulled apart and start crying, and the people that pulled them apart are-happy. " I just want to touch the hand of Abraham Lincoln once more" Pink touched Abraham Lincoln, and Say touched Pink. I kind of touched Abraham Lincoln, since I touched the book

By Meg Cabot
In her heart of hearts, all Mia Thermopolis (Princess of Genovia) wants to do is go to the prom. She can just imagine it: twirling into the night with Michael Moscovitz, her own true love, in a pink floor-length dress that even Lana Weinberger would be jealous of. In the end, will Mia be in Michael's arms under the dreamy lights of the prom, or will she be at home eating her own chocolates spending another prom night alone?
Freedom Stone
By Jeffrey Kluger
Lillie has lived as a slave with her mama and papa and her younger brother Plato, at Greenfog Plantation her whole life. When the Confederate Army promised freedom for the family of any slave who serves in the War Between the States, Lillie's papa decides to serve in the army to give him and his family freedom. But Lillie and her family receives news that papa had been killed in the war, they aren't freed. The Confederate Army claims that he was a thief and stole a pouch of Yankee gold, so they broke the promise. Lillie knew that her papa wouldn't steal anything. Could she prove that her papa is innocent and free her mama and Plato? I really liked the story and Lillie's determination to help prove that her father is not a thief. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to read about what life was like to a slave.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (Deluxe Illustrated Edition)
By John Boyne
Ameesha
Boy in the Striped Pyjamas Book Review- Ameesha Bruno a nine year old boy from Germany, story starts when he comes home to find one of his house maids going through his personal things and packing them in crates. He finds out that he is moving away from his 3 best friends, comfortable house and is going to a place where there would be no friends for him to play with other than his 12 year old sister, who Bruno tells us is a Hopeless case. He is told countless times by his father that his job, which is the reason why they moved to their new house Out-With will change their lives forever. He has a completely different view of how this house will change his life forever. Bruno had to live in a place where his father's soldiers walking in and out of the house especially one Lieutenant Kotler in particular who gives Bruno the creeps. Bored of the house, Bruno decides to go exploring to find his curiosity lingering to a strange barb wired fence. This fence plays a role of separating 2 different worlds. Bruno meets a boy, Shmuel who wears striped pajamas and makes Bruno long to wear it as a costume. As their relationship grows older Bruno’s best friend grows weaker. The book ends in a devastating way and you might end in tears. This is a heart-warming, young adult story shown in a child's perspective of the Nazy war. The book showed the innocence and purity of children. I give this book and 4 and a half stars out of 5 because I thought that this book could have improved by explaining a couple of the scenes which where just left hanging at the end of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone that is over the age of 10.

Once (Once Series)
By Morris Gleitzman
Once is a heartbreaking, beautiful story about a young, innocent Jewish boy named Felix. Before WWII began, his parents hid him in a catholic orphanage where the nuns kept his secret. After four years at the orphanage, Felix is sure that he's received a message. He believes that his parents want him to come and find them. So he sneaks out of the orphanage and finds his old house above his parent's bookstore. But his parents are no longer there. As he walks around trying to find his parents, he learns more about the war, who the Nazis are, and meets a little girl named Zelda whose parents were killed. This is an innocent, childlike account of WWII. I would recommend this book to 6th grade and older, seeing as it is about one of the most terrible wars in history. It is sad, scary, and sweet, and you will definitely cry your eyes out!

C.S. Lewis: Christian and Storyteller (Men of Spirit)
By Beatrice Gormley
C.S. Lewis has been known by most for his popular series The Chronicles of Narnia. But before characters like Aslan and Lucy ever came to fruition, there was always the man behind the marvelous books. Clive Staples Lewis was born on November 29, 1898. By the age of four, Clive “renamed” himself “Jacksie” or “Jack”. This was an early sign of Jack’s imagination and bold personality. Growing up very close with his brother Warren, Jack had fun story-telling, writing stories, and putting on plays. It was normal to see him writing a story with Warren right by his side. Jack’s childhood was happy and comfortable. The book stated that “for the most part, life was good.” Growing up in a middle class family, Jack enjoyed the luxury of any rich child. But he never lost sight of finding simple pleasures in the small things. Clive’s imagination was very much directed by his love for fantasy. His nurse, Lizzie, would often read fairy tales to Jack. This fed a hungry desire for knowledge and imagination. As the years passed and Jack grew older, he never lost sight of his vivid imagination. But while dealing with his raging mind, Jack also dealt with disbelief of God and the reality of Hell. After consulting with trusted friends and Godly books, Jack finally gave his life over to Christ. This was not the first time Jack had “accepted Jesus”, but Jack later wrote about his earlier relationship with salvation in his autobiography Surprised by Joy that “[I was] kicking, struggling, resentful, and darting [my] eyes in every direction for a chance of escape” After his conversion, Jack was ready to start serving God. Known for his most famous works “Chronicles of Narnia”, Jack made multiple references to God in his books. For example, Aslan, the lion in the Lion, the Witch, and Wardrobe, died in the place of sinners, much like the way Jesus died.Through Clive’s life, it is obvious to see the light in his story. The reader will definitely benefit from seeing a once reluctant Christian turn into a Jesus-loving believer. The reader can learn from Jack in two important ways: 1. friends are incredibly important for one’s life and 2. through your influence, you can change people’s lives and bring them closer to God. Jack died on November 22, 1963, but because of his strong influence on society and even stronger Christian friends, his amazing works are still here and have been warming our hearts ever since his pen touched the paper. Behind our favorite Chronicles of Narnia characters, there is a strong, Godly man behind it. Through his life, we can see the power of God and can be encouraged by Jack’s faith and trust in God.
