The One and Only Bob

The One and Only Bob

By Katherine Applegate

This heartwarming children's novel tells the story of Ivan, a silverback gorilla who has spent 27 years in captivity at a mall, living a life confined to a cage. Ivan is an introspective and artistic gorilla, spending his days painting and watching the world around him with a sense of detachment and quiet acceptance. Ivan shares his space with other animals, including Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog who often sneaks in to keep him company. Despite his confined existence, Ivan harbors a deep-seated optimism and a longing for something more. His perspective shifts dramatically when Ruby, a young and inquisitive elephant, joins the mall. Ruby's presence reignites a sense of purpose in Ivan, compelling him to take action to secure a better future for her. This novel is celebrated for its profound themes of friendship, hope, and the quest for freedom. It has received widespread acclaim, including the prestigious Newbery Medal for its contribution to children's literature. Overall, I loved reading this book. You should read it too!

Dork Diaries 1: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life

Dork Diaries 1: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life

By Rachel Renée Russell

Personally, i think this book is pretty good. im in the 5th grade, and ive been reading since 2nd grade. (thanks to my older sister) alot of people dont like how the protagonist, Nicki talks alot about boys and crushes and romantic teenager problems. But personally i think its just sort of realistic, Nicki is not in the 4th grade, shes a teen. This book isnt technically about a fun adventure with no worrys or stress, its realistic "slice of life" book. it speaks about growing pains and i think its interesting since i like books with drama and realistic ideals, usually. even in manga i like it when for example, attack on titan isnt all just about the titans but also shows the characters personalities and personal goals and stuff like that, friendships being broken and stuff that hurts the reader because of how realistic it is, but also has fiction like titans. Back to dork diaries, this is one of the only non-manga books i like, i will say Nicki can get a bit whiny and makes it a bit less enjoyable but overall i really like the idea and plot of this book, no its not a Diary of the Wimpy Kid "rip-off", its different in its own way because its more grown-up and usually girls struggle alot more with growing up so its natural Dork Diaries feels grown. I love this book! It can be very stereotypical tho, just because Nicki is a new "nerdy girl" who gets picked on, and on top of that her enemy is Mackenzie Hollister, the most popular girl in school. I like how much the book has so many twist and turns.

By Rachel Renée Russell

Nikki is planning a giant party with Chloe and Zoey. They plan a giant Luau themed Birthday party with over one hundred of Nikki's friends including Chloe and Zoey and her crush Brandon. She does eventually invite Mackenzie Hollister to her party. They need at least 250$ to rent the pool and at least 200$ to get their luau themed decorations, but Nikki has only 8.73$ and that is not close enough to their budget. She shows the plans to her mother hoping that her mother would pay for her birthday party, but Mrs. Maxwell is planning something else. Mrs. Maxwell wants to cut the budget to 100$ and even worse wants to have belly dancers to do the dancing for the party and have their party in the backyard. She starts to panic and she gives the invitations to Chloe to keep and decided that the party was canceled. The invitations get accidentally mailed out and it is an adventure to find them. Then one day when Nikki still was really sad about the invitations being lost, she has to take care of her little sister Brianna. She is watching TV when she was taking care of Brianna. Brianna goes to the bark and sells her delicious bark bites and gets a lot of money. She eventually runs out of Bark Bites and Nikki announces that the business is closed permanently, but then Brianna screams fill out these order forms or check out my website which will be coming soon. Brianna makes a deal to Nikki and said that if Nikki helps with the website than she would have half the money the earned. When Nikki added up the money it was 970$. This means that if they split it in half they would get more than 400$ each. Nikki helped with the bark bites and got the 400$. She Chloe and Zoey get all the supplies and they have a great party!

Dork Diaries 12: Tales from a Not-So-Secret Crush Catastrophe

Dork Diaries 12: Tales from a Not-So-Secret Crush Catastrophe

By Rachel Renée Russell

This book was incredible. There was so much to take in. And it was humorous too. Nikki's dad called the internet the interweb! Woo many things happened in this book. When Brandon confesses his love for Nikki, she gets crazy. Brandon is also training Nikki's dog, Daisy. When Brianna completely ruins family game night , Nikki has to miss her favorite TV shows finale and she's super excited to go on a national tour with her band. Mackenzie finally received some of the insults she deserves. When Nikki finds out she's gonna be a student ambassador she thinks she's too busy and when she shares some of her secrets to them on email. When they meet she thinks it's Andrea only to find out it's a boy named Andre. How embarrassing! She applied for a trip to Paris but when she found out she was accepted she didn't read the whole email. When she did she found out the dates were changed and she has to pick between her Bad Boyz national tour of a trip to Paris. Read the book to find out what happens next. I think this book is appropriate for kids ages 6-16. I hope you found this review helpful!

I read this book and then re-read it again and again. Its a great little twist on the real babysitters club. The part with Mimi having a stroke made me cry just because of the detail and descriptions. It was a great read.
